It’s hard for the UFC community to keep calm as UFC 284 is around the corner. It’s been quite a while since the UFC octagon witnessed a super fight between the toughest powers. The current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and the current UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, will square off at the headline event. Makhachev, with a record of 23 victories and a single loss, and Volkanovski, with a record of 25-1, are undoubtedly going to take the audience to the edge of their seats. The fight is indeed worth waiting for for a number of reasons, the major one being that UFC 284 is going to be the eighth fight in the history of the promotion where champions from different divisions engage in a bout to win the same title.
UFC 284: Complete fight card details
If “The Great” emerged victorious in the bout, he would be the fourth fighter to hold two titles in two different weight classes. The fight for the interim UFC featherweight championship will take place between TUF: Latin America featherweight winner Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett. It was earlier announced that the former UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker will square off against Paulo Costa. However, the possibility of the middleweight bout was totally scrapped when Costa declared he never signed a contract with the promotion.

It was expected that the former UFC Flyweight Championship challengers Kai Kara-France and Alex Perez would come face to face. Nonetheless, the matchup didn’t come to fruition. Instead, the American fighter is going to face Manel Kape on March 25. For UFC 284, the fans will witness the battle between Loma Lookboonmee and Elise Reed in the strawweight division. Previously, the two were scheduled to square off for UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak, but for some unknown reasons, the bout was scrapped. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, the scheduled matchup for the lightweight bout between Jamie Mullarkey and Nasrat Haqparast was tossed out. Instead, Francisco Prado will face Mullarkey for the event.
