Aljamain Sterling is looking to headline UFC 256 on December 12. Earlier this week, reports emerged that Amanda Nunes has had to pull out of her fight with Megan Anderson, leaving the UFC 256 card without its main event.

While the UFC has been trying to book a replacement fight to headline the card, Aljo seems to have the solution. The UFC scheduled the bantamweight title fight to be the co-main event of the card, but now, it may end up headlining the event.

Aljo took to Twitter to bring some peace of mind to UFC President Dana White. He wrote, “I heard we need a new main attraction? Relax uncle (Dana White) and kick your feet back. The Bantamweights got this. You just sit back and enjoy the Funk show! #UFC256”

With UFC 256 being a month away gives little time for the promotion to have a new main event arranged. The card has had some bad luck in its build-up. Originally, welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was scheduled to face Gilbert Burns in the main event. However, that fight got pushed back as ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ needed time to prepare.

With Nunes and Anderson now off the main card, the UFC has been left scrambling to add another marquee fight. As of now, Yan vs Sterling is the only title fight left on the card.

Aljamain Sterling wants the main event spot

The solution proposed by ‘The Funkmaster’ seems to be pretty simple, it’s another question if it makes sense to the UFC. With the card set to be a Pay-Per-View, the decision would ultimately end up on the star power of the main event.

Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling is sure to be an exciting fight, but many believe that neither of the two has reached a level to capture the audience the UFC requires from its PPV headliners.

Yan defeated featherweight legend Jose Aldo for the belt vacated by Henry Cejudo. The Russian would lay a clinical beating on the former champion to become the new UFC bantamweight champion of the world.

‘No Mercy’ joined the UFC in 2018 and has won all seven of his fights in the company. Being only 27, Yan has barely hit his prime and has beaten Urijah Faber, Jimmie Rivera, and John Dodson.

Aljamain on the other hand made his debut in the UFC in 2014. Having been with the promotion for years, Sterling has finally found himself challenging for the title. The fighter is on a five-fight win streak, his last being an impressive first-round submission of Cory Sandhagen.
