On episode #1895 of the JRE, the podcaster hosted political commentator and author Matt Walsh. The controversial figure is famous for making commentary on transgender people, abortion, gay marriage, etc. Meanwhile discussing gay marriage with Rogan, the podcaster, the pair had a little disagreement that lead to a minor debate.
Meanwhile, the guest was standing against the statement. The podcaster was curious to know why was it so. Moreover, the host even pointed out why he thought including gay couples to get officially married did not “damage” anything.
What was the debate all about?
To a previous statement made by Walsh, Rogan asked him, “What’s the damage that gets done to straight relationships if we change the definition of marriage and allow it to include gay couples?”
Joe Rogan comes out full-force, 100% in support of gay marriage. He even says GOP opposition to it is one of the things that keeps him from being a Republican. pic.twitter.com/XEY0fKXyKI

The guest answered, “by making marriage meaningless.” This is where Rogan was taken aback and he came back with a response saying, “how does it make it meaningless? It doesn’t make it meaningless. It doesn’t change a marriage at all. It’s now that gay people can now get married too. I just don’t see it. That even deteriorates the idea.”
Therefore, this led to the pair going a little back n forth. However, the UFC analyst seemed to make an effort to understand his guest’s stance.
In fact, he also spoke about the issue earlier with Andrew Schulz.

The reactions to the debate came pouring in and many prominent Twitter handlers chimed in to share their reactions to the discussion between the pair. Nevertheless, here are some of them.
This is also a great discussion. @joerogan proving the point that the government doesn’t legitimize marriage anyway or have the authority to redefine it. We’ve ignored the central Person in the covenant: God. https://t.co/CyWDyGi1om

Outstanding! Kudos to @MattWalshBlog for this clear explanation and defense. He’s exactly right to say the central question is “what is marriage.” @joerogan if you want to think more on that, have I got a book for you… https://t.co/xr4Uxl9PNd @McCormickProf @sherifgirgis https://t.co/X1ouoAPasT

Many seemed to appreciate the conversation.
Phenomenal conversation between @mattwalshblog and @joerogan on marriage. So encouraging to see a prominent conservative not squish on the fundamental political institution, and equally encouraging to see the biggest podcaster in the world take the issue seriously. pic.twitter.com/5qwmpu7buS

Walsh also took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the discussion.
Joe Rogan is the top interviewer. He always lets his guests talk and finish their thoughts. Seems strange that such an approach is so rare, but here we are.

I don't necessarily agree, but I understand the arguments on both sides regarding marriage/adoption. Good to see a discussion like this.
