Cory Sandhagen is forced to stay away from fighting. The surging featherweight’s last UFC bout was against Rob Font at UFC on ESPN 50. After the back-and-forth battle, Sandhagen won the fight via unanimous decision. However, things took a different turn for the 31-year-old after the bout. During the first round of the bout, Sandhagen suffered from a torn tricep.

Later, through his social media, he announced that he has to go under the knife to bounce back into the sport. At that time of the bout, all he wanted was to achieve a glorious victory against his opponent. Hence, he ignored the injury, fought for the next 20 minutes, and secured the victory. Now the injury has also stopped him from fighting in UFC 292 where his rivals are locking horns in the main event. After learning the unfortunate news, the MMA community was eagerly waiting to know when Sandhagen could bounce back into the fighting game. Recently, he revealed how long he is planning to stay away from fighting.

On August 7, Sandhagen took to his Instagram handle and detailed what happened to him. He wrote, “Fully torn tricep in Round 1. Wasn’t able to punch or elbow with that arm without pain and it feeling like s***. Did what I had to do to win that night. Surgery this week – back soon!” Twelve days after his injury, Sandhagen has assured that he will be back to fighting after six months. Sandhagen himself informed ‘MMA Kings’ about the time he needed to recover from the surgery. However, due to the unfortunate incident, he also lost the chance to fight in big events like UFC 292.

In some cases, a torn tricep would take over one year to heal. Thankfully, the fans of Sandhagen can hope that he will be back in the first half of 2024. However, it seems that ‘Sandman’ might have a difficult time, as he might need to change his most common fight strategy. Usually, the featherweight star used to fight his opponent mainly by striking; now Sandhagen might need to look for other game plans to win against his opponents.

Dana White was not angry

Sandhagen was able to win against Rob Font at UFC Nashville; however, many felt the fight was boring. Both ‘Sandman’ and Font came face-to-face for the main event, and their fight terribly failed to impress even UFC president Dana White. White is someone who openly expresses his anger if fighters fail to entertain the fans with electrifying fights. People believed that the 54-year-old walked out of the arena when the bout between Sandhagen and Font entered the fourth round.

According to them, White couldn’t tolerate the lackluster bout between the UFC fighters. When Sandhagen learned about the matter, he claimed that White walked out of the arena for other reasons. He stated that after the fight, White talked to him in the most friendly way possible. According to him, this itself proves that White was not angry with ‘Sandman’ for putting forth a boring fight.
