Did Donald Trump truly save the UFC, or is he overstating his influence in its success?

Donald Trump took over Joe Rogan’s microphone last Friday, October 25, in a bid to earn more support and outgun his opponent: Kamala Harris. Rogan has accrued millions of listeners due to the format and popularity of his podcast. The meeting between the two men lasted three hours and delivered on its promise of a thrilling affair. Donald Trump’s conversation with Joe Rogan touched on a wide range of topics, from Kamala Harris’ IQ to the presence of Martians.

However, another major topic that fans loved listening to was his relationship with the UFC and its CEO, Dana White. The Republican candidate doesn’t shy away from praising White as a company founder and as a friend. However, in the process, he also revealed the story of how he personally saved the UFC from going bankrupt in its initial years.

Trump let the cat out of the bag after Rogan talked about the initial problems faced by the Dana White-led promotion when it launched. He said, “It was banned from cable because of Budweiser and John McCain, and you could only get it on DirecTV.” Trump then chimed in and revealed that it was he who walked in to help out the promotion by getting them the first few venues, such as the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

Trump told Joe Rogan on JRE #2219, “And then I came along, and I gave him the sites. And he never forgot it. You know, and—just to interrupt you for one second. So, they couldn’t get a site because it was too dangerous, and everybody was against it, and they couldn’t get a license. I gave him the first two or three sites, and they were great. And by the way, I went to the first fight. I said, ‘I never saw anything like this.’ It was crazy. It was so good—take the best fight you’ve ever seen; it was like that fight. It was so good that I gave it to him again, again, and all of a sudden, it caught on.”

Well, this support helped the UFC gain traction and eventually become the successful organization it is today. If it wasn’t for him, United States Senator John McCain surely almost ruined the promotion as he sent letters to all 50 US governors back in 1996 to get the sport banned from television. However, it wasn’t just here that he boasted about his help and his bond with Dana White since Trump also heaped praise on his close pal in a different podcast.

In a recent podcast appearance, Donald Trump was all praise for his good friend Dana White. The Republican claimed that there is nobody like the UFC CEO and even gave an explanation for it. Since hosting two UFC events at his now-defunct Atlantic City casino in the early 2000s, the business tycoon has maintained a close friendship with White. The UFC CEO has paid the American tycoon back over the last two decades by sticking with him during his political efforts, even endorsing him as US president at the Republican National Convention.

Additionally, Trump revealed his close bond with the UFC CEO during an appearance on Bussin’ With The Boys. The former US president stated that no one could perform his duties in the UFC. He said, “There’s nobody like him.’ You always say that everybody’s replaceable, [but] I don’t think anybody can do what he does. He’s built billions of dollars of value. There’s nobody like this guy.”

He further added, “He’s just a fantastic person, and he’s so loyal. I’ve known him a long time, and he’s never changed; he’s just an incredible guy, and he really understands that business.” Well, it sure looks like Trump has a lot of respect for the UFC CEO. So no wonder the two tycoons of their realm truly share a great friendship together. What do you think of their bond? Let us know in the comments.
