Jon Jones might have been declared the GOAT of the heavyweight category by Dana White but it did not exempt him from a legal strife. He has found himself in legal trouble for months now involving the case of his misbehavior with testing officials who came to his house for regular testing. The undisputed heavyweight champ is reportedly coming back to action against Stipe Miocic on November 9th and the legal action might put this comeback into troubled waters.
Jones has been charged with two misdemeanors and this is even making veterans like Michael Bisping tense. He even has a possibility of facing jail time, so what about the Miocic fight?

In the new episode of his podcast, Michael Bisping discussed different news from the UFC with Anthony Smith and Brendan Loughnane. They spoke about Jon Jones getting into legal trouble with the UFC’s new drug testing agency earlier this year. To give you a recap, ‘Bones’ was accused of assault and threatening the testing agents who had visited his house to collect samples as a part of the UFC anti-doping program. According to the first police report that was filed on April 5th, Crystal Martinez, an agent from ‘Drug-Free Sport’, visited Jones’s home on March 30, accompanied by a co-worker and they were mistreated by Jones.
All this was discussed in the latest episode of the ‘Believe You Me’ podcast and Bisping was worried about the fight that Jones was going to have with Miocic. He stated, “Jon Jones just can’t stay out of the news for the wrong reasons. Do you know what I mean? If this did go to trial… if he did go to trial… He’s supposed to be fighting Stipe in November. November sounds like a long way away, but it’s not. This year’s flown by and we are almost in August. We don’t know how early into November the date will be. Could be the start of November you know that’s around the corner. Then now he’s going to trial?”
He also spoke about two possibilities that might come forth from this case. If ‘Bones’ did plead guilty then he could face one year in prison or he would have to pay the fines which he can fortunately afford. If he does not plead guilty and sticks to his point that the allegations were fabricated, then the trial is going to go on longer.

This poses a problem for the heavyweight division because it is going to delay the fight further away and hold up the division even longer. ‘Bones’ is already in the stages of preparing for his return to UFC and is expected to defend his heavyweight title so, the biggest concern is whether it will take place in November as it was expected. Let’s see what charges he has in detail in the meantime.

What are the charges against Jones?
Not only was he charged with misconduct but a report by Martinez also claimed that Jones had questioned the testers about their finances as he said he would be suing them. He also apparently took hold of Martinez’s phone and started recording the testing agents. The two misdemeanors against him are assault and interference with communication. His virtual bond hearing is also scheduled to take place on July 17th.

If the court finds him guilty then the fighter might have to spend time in jail for one year and give up to $1500 as a fine. During the court appearance, he will be re-informed of his charges and asked to enter a plea. The judge might also stipulate particular conditions for his release when the case is pending and another hearing will be held within 30 to 45 days.
However, all of this creates a problem for the November fight because if he does plead guilty he will have to go to jail for less than a year. All in all, as the UFC world is eagerly waiting for his return to the Octagon the charges against ‘Bones’ could impact his comeback schedule. Do you think he will be able to step into the cage at Madison Square Garden against Stipe Miocic?
