Is Dana White losing control over Conor McGregor's UFC return? What's really going on here?

Is the Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler fight fated to happen? The duo were supposed to face each other at UFC 303, but an unforeseen pinky toe injury sidelined ‘The Notorious’. Without a doubt, the fighting community started churning the rumor mills and began speculating if Chandler and McGregor would ever fight each other. As the doubt continued to rise, Chael Sonnen came forward with a reality check.

‘The American Gangster’ analyzed the situation revolving around McGregor and Chandler, and declared that the fighters and Dana White are not in sync with each other. But why did the UFC veteran think so? Let’s find out!

Recently, Sonnen took to his YouTube channel, ‘Bad Guy Inc’, and opened up once again on arguably the most anticipated matchup of the year. He began questioning if Chandler was indeed focused on fighting the Irishman. Not too long ago, ‘Mystic Mike’ took the liberty of calling out Islam Makhachev for a fight. Although the LW champ didn’t deem ‘Iron’ worthy of a fight, the callout garnered quite some attention.

Sonnen said, “Is Chandler fully locked on McGregor? And his way of getting the fight is by acting like he wants a different fight? Or, does he know something? Well, how about option C? I don’t think these guys are on the same page. I don’t think they’ve ever been.” He further revealed that Chandler might know something that McGregor doesn’t, which is exactly why the former Bellator champ was asking for a fight against anyone.

‘The Bad Guy’ pointed out that Chandler is ready to go, regardless of the number of rounds, weight category, etc. However, the same wasn’t true for ‘The Notorious’. And all the arrows pointed at the fighters and the MMA promotion being out of sync. He continued, “…had a period of time with Conor McGregor where he was saying ‘I too am in’. And Conor was even pulling spoofs because he couldn’t get what he wanted through the organization, and you had the organization sitting back and telling both of them ‘don’t listen to either guy. We’ll let you know when that fight’s gonna be.’ Like these 3 have never been on the same page.”

Miscommunications and disparities in statements have been plaguing this matchup from the get-go. There were times when White and McGregor seemed to be on different pages with Chandler just caught in the cross-fire with nothing to do. All that cleared up when the fight was announced for UFC 303. Now, it seems like things are back to square one after the cancelation.

Have an interesting take?

Needless to say, the fight fans have begun to lose their faith in the matchup between ‘The Notorious’ and ‘Iron’. At the press conference for UFC 303, even the UFC head honcho refused to talk about McGregor. He simply claimed that the former champion wasn’t ready. Surprisingly, Sonnen also had somewhat similar opinions about McGregor’s return.

Will ‘The Notorious’ return to fight ‘Iron’?

In a recent tweet, Chandler declared that he was offered to fight Makhachev in October. But that didn’t stop him from dragging in the ‘Mystic Mac’. He called the Irishman and revealed his desire to fight him at the Sphere if his pinky was all healed up by September. However, Sonnen seemed to have his doubts.

In a previous chat on his YouTube talk show, ‘The American Gangster’ said, “And the fact that his very opponent Michael Chandler is now publicly being offered different fights shows us the evidence that we need. The reality versus McGregor’s statement are not the same thing.” Of course, this wasn’t the only time Sonnen cast his doubts at McGregor’s return.

He opined that Chandler vs. Makhachev would be a lightweight bout, while the fight with McGregor is supposed to be a welterweight bout. Whether the Irish mixed martial artist was actually off the table is something that only time will reveal. But with new updates building up in the matchup between McGregor and Chandler, things might just click.
