UFC fans have a lot to look forward to in the month of April! An absolutely stacked UFC 314, headlined by an electrifying featherweight title clash between legendary veteran Alexander Volkanovski and the explosive, young, and hungry lion, Diego Lopes. But that is just one of the many bangers on the Miami, Florida PPV card.

Not to mention there are also a couple of cracking Fight Night cards set for the month so fans can get their fix of the UFC action for three out of the four weekends in April. This is why in this article, we take a look at some of the overlooked gems on these cards that are must-watch TV for fans.

1. Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva (Featherweight – UFC 314)

The colorful and eclectic technical grappler Bryce Mitchell, the man who gave us ‘Hitler was a nice guy’ and ‘flat earth theory’, will take on motor-mouth Brazilian striking powerhouse Jean Silva at UFC 314. Their striker vs. grappler matchup is an exciting one, not to mention things have gotten weird between them lately.

Silva 10-7ed their press conference, where he taunted the flat earther with a globe and even got a “f– Bryce Mitchell” chant going. The American could do nothing but sit silently and stone-facedly stare off into the crooning crowd. ‘Thug Nasty’ also believes that the Brazilian has let loose a “legion of demons” against him, who apparently haunt Mitchell’s dreams and lead him into sin. Folks, it doesn’t get better than this!

2. Yair Rodriguez vs. Patricio Pitbull (Featherweight – UFC 314)

On the same card, former interim UFC featherweight champ Yair Rodriguez will be Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire’s first test in the UFC. Pitbull, a former two-division Bellator champion, is considered one of the greatest champions in that promotion’s history. Both men are exciting strikers with a diverse set of skills. Watching Rodriguez’s creative, unorthodox striking and devastating leg kicks go up against ‘Pitbull’s heavy hands and legendary power at featherweight would be an absolute treat.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Bryce Mitchell's grappling overcome Jean Silva's taunts and striking power in their heated UFC 314 clash?

Have an interesting take?

And fans are rightfully expecting fireworks from the first bell. Not to mention their clash has high stakes since it will definitely have title implications. The fact that Dana White and Co. have given Pitbull the #5 ranked ‘El Pantera’ on his UFC debut indicates that the winner would get into the title picture straightaway, probably no more than a title eliminator against Movsar Evloev away from fighting for the title.

3. Ikram Aliskerov vs. André Muniz (Middleweight – UFC on ESPN: Hill vs. Rountree Jr.)

Grappler vs. grappler matchups are not exactly what fans picture when they think of exciting fights. However, that is not the case for the April 26 Ikram Aliskerov vs. Andre Muniz clash. The Dagestani Aliskerov and his world-class combat sambo will clash with Muniz’s lethal third Dan black belt BJJ game. Both men are coming into the fight with a chip on their shoulder. Muniz has lost two out of his last three and has fallen out of the rankings.

On the other hand, Aliskerov missed out on the biggest opportunity of his career so far, coming off a knockout loss to Robert Whittaker at their short-notice UFC Saudi Arabia main event clash last year. The Dagestan-born fighter is also unranked. A win here would be crucial for both men’s chances of cracking the rankings and making a title run. And that is why you can expect a lot of action in their fight, which will probably end with a submission.

4. Michel Pereira vs. Abus Magomedov (Middleweight – UFC on ESPN: Hill vs. Rountree Jr.)

The only thing more dangerous than a Dagestani is a Dagestani who can strike. And that is exactly what Abus Magomedov is. But on the other hand, his opponent is no less dangerous. Michel Pereira, with his incredibly entertaining, high-flying capoeira moves is always a treat to watch.

Which makes their April 26, Kansas City card clash so mouth watering for fans. We expect the usual aggressive striking, flair and showmanship from the Brazilian, while Magomedov will rely on his well-rounded game to try and take advantage of openings Pereira leaves with his wild and unpredictable striking.

5. Brad Tavares vs. Gerald Meerschaert (Middleweight – UFC on ESPN: Emmett vs. Murphy)

Another classic striker vs. grappler matchup, Brad Tavares and Gerald Meerschaert‘s April 6 contest will be a clash between the division’s two most exciting veterans. Tavares, of course, is primarily a striker with some good grappling skills thrown in there. But against Meerschaert’s lethal ground game, Tavares will want to keep their Fight Night clash on the feet.

On the other hand, Meerschaert will want to take the fight to the ground early and often, and for good reason. A lethal grappler, the Wisconsin native holds the record for the most submission wins in middleweight history at eleven. Whoever can impose their game plan will probably win the fight, which would be absolutely intriguing to see in a matchup as evenly matched as theirs. Which of these fights are you looking forward to the most?
