Islam Makhachev created history after winning the best pound-for-pound fighter title after his win against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Even though the result shocked many fans and MMA personalities, the Dagestan native was able to extend his unbeaten run to 12 fights. It is the longest unbeaten streak in UFC’s history. However, UFC fans claim that Volkanovski should not lose his best -pound-for-pound fighter tag after an incredible performance.
Alexander Volkanovski couldn’t become the fifth double champion in UFC’s history even with the uproarious support of his home crowd. However, he displayed an excellent performance in his first lightweight fight in Dana White’s promotion.
Makhachev was the favorite going into the main event of UFC 284. But he could only win the fight via a unanimous decision. In what was one of the closest fights in the UFC, fans claim that Alexander Volkanovski should not lose his status as the best pound-for-pound fighter. The result of the fight even shocked famous UFC commentator, Joe Rogan.

Fans claim that Alexander Volkanovski should keep his best P4P fighter status
Fans have stormed onto social media to express their disappointment with the judges’ scorecard for the UFC 284 main event. VOLK DROPS ISLAM AT THE END

MMA reporter Alex Behunin also commented that ‘The Great’ should not lose his best P4P fighter status. Fans reacted to his tweet and one of them claims that the way 5th round ended with Makhachev getting knocked down, shouldn’t have taken away Volkanovski’s P4P title.
Nope, Volkanovski pushed Islam like no one has and maybe never will. Plus how that 5th Round ended really hard to take the # 1 P4P ranking away from Vokanovski

Another fan claimed that the fight could have been a draw after both fighters went toe-to-toe till the end of the 5th round.
Considering he was the guy coming up I don’t think Islam should get that ranking, I mean look at how the fight ended, it could’ve been a draw cuz of that last round

One fan believes that the UFC gifted Islam Makhachev with an undeserved no. 2 spot in the P4P rankings without having any title defenses. He claims that he got the “Khabib Privilege.”
Islam wasn’t the one moving up a class after having 4 title defenses against top 5s. They literally gave islam #2 p4p with 0 title defenses and if we’re using this logic where if you beat #1 then you’re #1…leon should have gotten it after the Usman ko. Too much Khabib privilege.

Considering it was fairly even the entire fight, Volk showed he’s capable of wrestling with Islam as the smaller man & the fight ended with Volk dropping and landing GnP on Islam I don’t think he should lose the #1 spot
— Awakened mind (@EruditeMMA) February 12, 2023
The original meaning of p4p was the idea of if they were all the same size, who'd be the best:
Based on that, I think it's safe to say that if Volk was the same size as Islam he would've won that. He should keep the #1 spot
