Combat sports fans always want to see the biggest fights, especially UFC fans. Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov was one such epic fight every fan wanted to see.

Both men are considered two of the greatest lightweights to have ever graced the UFC Octagon. Despite being scheduled to fight 5 times over the course of their careers, the duo never actually met in the octagon.

Fans just can’t get over the fact that they didn’t get to see this fight. Many believe ‘El Cucuy’ was the kryptonite that ‘The Eagle’ never had in his career.

Ferguson’s unique style of fighting and toughness and durability could indeed have been a combo to trouble the undefeated Dagestani.

But this fight can still potentially happen. However, the chances are slim to none, especially considering Nurmagomedov’s inactive status.

Ferguson too got his 12-fight winning streak snapped and is on a 2-fight skid since his last unsuccessful booking against Nurmagomedov.

‘El Cucuy’ fights Beneil Dariush this month at UFC 262 as he looks to find his way back to winning ways. Given his body of work over the course of his UFC career, one or two wins should put him right back in title contention.

But a triumph against Dariush is a mandate for him to challenge for the undisputed UFC gold somewhere in the future.

Nurmagomedov, on the other hand, is currently retired. He announced his decision to hang his gloves up for good after successfully defending his title at UFC 254. The Russian has since vacated his title.

Can Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov actually happen?

Ferguson can springboard into title contention with an impressive win over Dariush. Maybe another triumph can see him fight for the belt. If ‘El Cucuy’ can somehow capture the lightweight belt, that makes the fight much easier to organize.

Nurmagomedov retired without realizing his father’s dream of reaching 30-0 as a fighter. Therefore, if Ferguson wins the belt in the future and grabs the mic to call out Nurmagomedov for a fight, we might see the Russian make a comeback.
