“El Cucuy” Tony Ferguson has endured the worst year of his professional career in 2020. Ferguson lost to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249, then to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256. For the first time in his stellar career, Ferguson suffered two back-to-back losses.
Many believe the best days of him are behind Ferguson as he is on a decline. Considering he is at 36 now, those concerns are not out of the blue. However, Ferguson is a different animal altogether. He might have lost consecutive bouts, but it was his decisions that let him down rather than his ability.

Ferguson was originally scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 249. But ‘The Eagle’ had to withdraw due to coronavirus travel restrictions. The event was postponed too. Ferguson strangely decided to do a test weight cut on the original weigh-in’s date. Three weeks later he had to cut weight again as Justin Gaethje stepped in to replace Nurmagomedov.
Naturally, he was slower than his usual self and the speed difference was visible throughout. Before his fight against Oliveira, Ferguson totally revamped his crew. He decided for a fresh start and clearly, that didn’t help him. “El Cucuy” was strategically outclassed by “Do Bronx”.
