The lightweight division now has a new contender in the form of former Bellator champion ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler who made a thrilling debut in his new organization. He could have fought Ferguson in 2020, but that bout never quite materialized.

Ferguson ruled the division for over 8 years with a 12-fight win streak. Even though he won the interim belt at UFC 216 after defeating Kevin Lee, he never got the chance to fight for the undisputed title due to a series of unfortunate incidents. Hence, he will look to get back to title contention in 2021.
