UFC lightweight star Tony Ferguson has pleaded not guilty after facing misdemeanor DUI charges following an alleged car crash in May. The 39-year-old received the DUI charges from the prosecutors this past week at an arraignment hearing. ‘El Cucuy’ raised concern last month after footage of his arrest went viral following the alleged crash.
The alleged incident happened in the early hours of May 7 in Hollywood, California. The ex-UFC interim lightweight champion allegedly crashed into two parked cars and flipped his own truck in the process. Fortunately, neither Ferguson nor anyone else suffered any injuries.
However, one of the cars that he allegedly crashed into belonged to the rapper Cash Gotti. The rapper came out of the club and found his vehicle in shambles following the alleged incident.

Tony Ferguson pleads not guilty
Early reports of the incident stated that Tony Ferguson was very uncooperative following the alleged incident. According to the authorities, the 39-year-old refused a field sobriety test. The misdemeanor DUI charges were expected following the alleged incident. However, refusing the test meant Ferguson was likely to have his license suspended. Another report stated that the UFC star had bloodshot eyes and reeked of alcohol on the scene.

Footage of his arrest went viral shortly after and fans showed great concern for the fighter. He was released on bail later.
Ferguson could be looking at a fine in the ballpark of $1000, along with alcohol rehabilitation and education classes. Misdemeanor DUI charges in California typically do not translate to jail time, especially for first-time offenders.
In case the court finds him guilty, they are likely to put him on probation. During this period, Ferguson should not get into any other legal trouble. Neither he nor his team has released any statements on the incident.

Meanwhile, Tony Ferguson has a date and an opponent for his next fight. The former interim 155 lbs champion will face veteran Bobby Green in a lightweight matchup on July 29 at UFC 291.
Ferguson has not won inside the cage since 2020. He has lost five in a row and is out of the lightweight rankings. The bout at UFC 291 could be make-or-break for Ferguson.
All things considered, Ferguson is not having the best of times inside and outside the cage. Hopefully, he turn things around soon.
