In the world of MMA, success and controversy walk side by side. At times, even the most successful and famous MMA figures end up fighting themselves wrapped around controversies. Such has been the case with Tony Ferguson. Rightfully called ‘El Cucuy’, Ferguson was once known as the most feared opponent in all of UFC. However, things have changed in the last few years, both inside and outside the cage.

Ever since his defeat against Justin Gaethje, Ferguson has not been able to get back to winning ways. Further, his personal life has also witnessed many ups and downs, one of which is the infamous DUI incident that occurred earlier this year.

In the early morning hours of May 9, 2023, at around 2:00 AM, Tony Ferguson collided his pickup truck with two parked cars outside a Hollywood club. The truck ended up on its side. Fortunately, neither Ferguson nor anyone else suffered injuries.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Ferguson refused to take a sobriety test. Moreover, he displayed significant uncooperativeness. Further, the investigating officers noted that ‘El Cucuy’ emitted a strong alcohol odor and had bloodshot eyes.

Consequently, the MMA fighter was arrested, and faced a misdemeanor DUI charge. Additionally, a potential license suspension was also a possibility. Among the damaged cars was the Mercedes owned by rapper Cash Gotti, who discovered his vehicle wrecked by the impact of ‘El Cucuy’s’ truck as he exited the club.

Fast forward to the end of the year, Ferguson is looking to snap his six-fight losing streak against the surging Paddy Pimblett.

While some applauded Ferguson’s will to train with Goggins, many others criticized this move. Amongst the naysayers was UFC legend Michael Bisping. In one of his live sessions, he openly explained his bold opinions about this.

“He’s training with David Goggins. I don’t get it. I don’t understand that,” he said. “You wanna run across Africa, you wanna go to the top of the Himalayas. Get involved with David Goggins. Jon Jones had him. I’m sure he’s very good at giving a speech. I don’t think Tony necessarily needs that,” he added.
