It seems like the ghost of the fighter pay issue will not leave UFC CEO Dana White alone just yet. One of the most controversial hot topics in the world of MMA is the payment structure of fighters across all promotions and among them, the controversy of UFC stands atop everyone. Previously, several fighters had filed a lawsuit against the promotion for their rights and more money.

Dana White has repeatedly stated that he pays the fighters what they deserve for their fight inside the Octagon, however, this statement by the UFC CEO didn’t please some people in the industry. While having a conversation with GQ Sports, White explained that the fighters are always hungry for more money, and he should be paying them what they deserve.

Andrew Schultz, a stand-up comedian, seems to have taken cognizance of the UFC CEO’s reluctance to provide any further appreciation to the fighters. While having a live show, Schultz took the opportunity and attacked the UFC CEO, “That’s why Dana’s here SO you can learn how to fuck a Brazilian out of half their purse.”

Schultz in his roast highlighted the fact that Dana White pays less money to his fighters even though the promotion makes a substantial amount of revenue from them. Nonetheless, this nonpayment by the UFC got them into trouble as thousands of fighters issued a lawsuit against them which forced the UFC to settle the score.

UFC’s lawsuit finally solved through payment

A number of fighters filed a class action lawsuit against the promotion for using their dominant status in the realm of MMA to have an unfair advantage over the fighters as well as competitors. The first class action was filed by a group of former UFC fighters who competed in the promotion from 2010-2017. According to their claims, UFC used their dominant status to suppress the payments of the fighters. The plaintiffs demanded more than $1 billion from the promotion.

The lawsuit stood at the courts for years as UFC denied any allegations about suppressing payments to the fighters, yet, finally the promotion had to kneel as the courts approached the UFC CEO Dana White and the promotion to pay a substantial amount of money to clear the charges. Regardless, it must be noted that the proceedings kind of worked in favor of Dana White.

The UFC CEO had to pay only $335 million to the fighters instead of a billion dollars. Nonetheless, later the promotion denied any claims that they withheld any payments to the fighters.
