DC sat down together with Ben Askren on his YouTube talk show and conversed about UFC 309. No doubt, a talk about UFC 309 remains incomplete without talking about Jones vs. Miocic. However, the world of mixed martial arts was left petrified when Cormier hinted at Jones’ retirement.
Cormier said, “Dude, hearing Jones say, or hearing the rumor that Jones said ‘This is it for me’, it sucks, because I do believe that there is some work left to be done with Aspinall, mainly. I don’t think, I don’t think anyone else warrants him sticking around. I really don’t, because we saw what he did to Ciryl Gane.”
But Ben Askren wasn’t ready to let it go. With the entire MMA realm anticipating a fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, Askren questioned the UFC big guns’ decision of not putting the champion and the interim champion together in the Octagon. The UFC commentator admitted that he knew what Askren meant. However, he claimed that ‘Bones’ probably didn’t want to fight anymore.

Daniel Cormier said, “The guy’s obviously doing well, probably just doesn’t want to fight anymore. So what happens, right? You walk away,” Cormier continued. “I believe that when push comes to shove, they might nudge him if he gets through Stipe. They nudge you, they nudge you, they nudge you, and then you end up getting more money and then you ultimately fight.”
