Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones‘ banter has been heated up after the interim heavyweight champ termed Jones a ‘fight dodger.’ After the obnoxious statement, Jon Jones took to his Instagram handle to taunt Aspinall. He wrote, “This dude literally has my large black c–k in his mouth every week. I’m flattered. I absolutely guarantee he will not win more world championships than me.” The MMA world including some of the heavyweights of the industry believes that Aspinall would oust Jones if they ever fight inside the Octagon but a rather known UFC insider has come forward to warn Aspinall.

It must be noted that the Britisher recently became one of the very few fighters who had to defend their interim title. So his frustration is palpable but according to a UFC insider, it is not wise to be over-confident in your statistics when you are going against someone who has the ability to end careers.

One must not forget that Jon Jones is not someone who should be taken lightly. With a career record of 27 victories and only 1 defeat that is because of an illegal move, Jon Jones is currently at the pinnacle of the promotion. Former UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen believes that a fight with Jones might be a bit harsh for Aspinall. “I don’t know if Jon is going to be able to lure Tom into doing another fight, but I will share with you that if Tom and Jon get in the Octagon, it is going to be on International Fight Week of next year, which is in July.”

Sonnen further emphasized that the promotion might have to give Aspinall a long rest if he wants to fight Jones, “It’s very relevant because that’ll put Tom Aspinall out of the ring for over a year.” ‘The American Gangster’ explained that this could derail Aspinall’s dominant gameplan, “I’m not certain that you guys understand the stat. Aspinall, with one exception—one exception of Andrei Arlovski—has never been out of the first round. I’m not sure that you understand that this is not helpful.”

Tom Aspinall’s career record is nothing short of a nightmare for most fighters. The heavyweight has secured 15 victories and suffered just 3 defeats. Notably, 14 of those 15 victories came by way of first-round finish. Aspinall has never seen a second round in his career except in his bout against Andrei Arlovski. This scary record has made everyone believe that he has what it takes to defeat the boogeyman of the promotion.

He further added, “That is not a good thing. It looks good and it sounds good, but it’s not good. When you find yourself in a fight harder than you’re used to, it’s a problem for everybody. It is the number one reason that Ronda lost to Holly Holm. It was not the right leg kick; it was because the six other girls that Ronda had been in there with checked out collectively in a shorter time than Holly had made it. That was the problem. It’s a problem for everyone, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Well, a fight between them may or may not happen so soon as Jones is of the opinion that he will be retiring after fighting Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November. However, according to another UFC insider, there’s a possibility that this fight could happen.

Is Jones vs. Aspinall a possibility?

After Aspinall told  Sport Bible that Jones was the champion of fight dodging, the MMA community was left dumbfounded as this was the first time Jon Jones was so angry at Aspinall for his comments. One of the onlookers of the online spat was a former dual weight champion and former arch-rival of Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier. While having a conversation on his YouTube channel, Cormier explained that Tom Aspinall might have succeeded in his banter this time.

“Business is picking up now, finally… It’s the fight, or at least it feels like the fight. While I thought [Tom Aspinall] fumbled the post-fight interview with me in Manchester, it seems like he’s frustrated,” said Cormier. ‘DC’ explained that frustration often leads to people showcasing their true nature and with Jones’s comments, it’s a bit clearer that he may want to fight Aspinall after ousting Miocic.
