It looks like the cloud of uncertainty surrounding the unification in the UFC’s heavyweight division is about to disappear. Since last year, interim champion Tom Aspinall has set his sights on Jon Jones, the division’s kingpin, for the said deed. After defending the title against Stipe Miocic last November, Jones has remained stubborn about the prospect of facing the Englishman. Instead, he set his sights on Alex Pereira, claiming, “I want to fight dangerous, established champions” rather than newcomers.
However, Dana White swiftly dismissed Jon Jones’ wishes, responding with “no f-cking way.” And with Aspinall’s recent claims shedding light on his meeting with the UFC CEO after UFC 309, the future looks more promising for fans to witness Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall. The Englishman recently shared in his latest interview with “Piers Morgan Uncensored” on YouTube,
“I was literally waiting outside that room. I hadn’t seen any of this stuff he had said. So, in all honesty, I was expecting him to come and maybe negotiate a little bit. He walked into the room and said, ‘It’s happening.’ I said, ‘Well, he’s going to want loads of money.’ He said, ‘I know, but it’s happening.'” Tom Aspinall’s statement validates what Jon Jones had previously revealed to the public: the only thing that would compel him to fight Aspinall is “f*ck you money.”

Despite mounting pressure from all sides, Jon Jones appears to be left with no choice, as White has given him an ultimatum: either retire or face Tom Aspinall. Recently, UFC welterweight sensation and his former Central Iowa Community College roommate, Colby Covington, echoed this sentiment, voicing his frustrations with ‘Bones’ and making serious allegations of him ‘ducking’ Tom Aspinall. Let’s take a closer look at what Covington had to say about his former roommate.
Colby Covington unleashes his wrath on Jon Jones
This weekend, Colby Covington is returning to the octagon against Joaquin Buckley at UFC Fight Night in Tampa, Florida. After being sidelined for almost a year, ‘Chaos’ is ready to make a comeback and bounce back from his last defeat. However, more than just his fight, Covington has become the center of attention for his verbal attacks on NBA star LeBron James and UFC fighter Jon Jones. Covington’s comments on ‘Bones’ gained significant attention, particularly when speaking to Chael Sonnen ahead of his clash.
When The American Gangster’ asked Colby Covington his thoughts on the highly anticipated Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall heavyweight fight, Covington didn’t hold back, delivering a bitter truth about the New Mexico resident. He stated, “There’s no other option, Jon’s going to vacate the title. Everybody knows he’s scared of Aspinall. Aspinall would starch him and leave him in a pool of his own blood. So just like he ducked Ngannou for three years when Ngannou was on top, he didn’t want to fight him. He knows it’s a bad match-up with Aspinall as well. So I think he vacates the title before unifying the title.”
For the unversed, Covington and Jones were once close friends during their college years,
but their relationship deteriorated over time. Covington recently revealed the reasons behind their falling out, citing Jones’ “st-roid” use and his tendency to boss him around, even assigning him mundane tasks like washing dishes and cleaning—actions that ultimately drove a wedge between them.ADVERTISEMENT
