The entire world of mixed martial arts wanted Jon Jones to fight Tom Aspinall, and the desire went to the extent that internet trolls began bashing the heavyweight champion for apparently ducking the ‘Honey Badger’. Little did netizens know that their act was what pushed Jones away from the matchup against the interim HW champion. Even though Dana White announced that the winner of the Stipe Miocic vs. Jon Jones sould fight Aspinall, ‘Bones’ wasn’t in favor of the fight. However, there’s still a way for the White and Co. to make him fight the Brit.
Before his fight with ‘Stone Cold’ at UFC 309, ‘Bones’ had a brief conversation with Adin Ross. Therein, Ross jumped right in and asked the champion if there would ever be a fight between him and Aspinall. While the response weighed more on the negative side, Jones claimed that there was one thing that White and the Chief Business Officer of the UFC, Hunter Campbell could do to make the fight happen. Jones said, “I think the only way that we do it is if Dana and Hunter give me a check that really changes my mind, really changes everything. That’s the only way. I want it to be really, really worth my while. And right now, it just doesn’t feel really, really worth my while.”
That was when Ross reflected on the internet trolls dissing Jones for evading Aspinall. He questioned if the trolling didn’t get to him at all. ‘Bones’ replied, “Well, the trolls chirping me is part of the reason why I’m not going to do it. You guys want, this is what you want, and this is the way you’re going about it? Okay. Now, I’m gonna be the one with the last laugh.”

In a recent conversation with the famed UFC analyst, Michael Bisping, Aspinall revealed that the MMA promotion was simply sidelining his requests to make a face-off happen in public. He said, “I requested to go to the press conference, they didn’t want me there. I requested go to the weigh ins, they didn’t want me there. So we’ll see what happens there with the face-off in the Octagon, but that would be great if we can do that.”
There was another instance when Aspinall went to Jones and asked for a picture while facing off. But ‘Bones’ wasn’t ready and he turned down the request, settling for a simpler picture. But this time, the British heavyweight planned to force his way through at UFC 309. When ‘The Count’ asked him if he would actually do what Alexander Volkanovski did at UFC 280, Aspinall replied, “I’d like to yeah, absolutely.”

Nevertheless, the 37-year-old champion was adamant in his take. He even walked out of an interview just because the interviewer was a bit too close to Aspinall. However, the final decision lies with Dana White and his matchmaking team.
