UFC’s 16th outing in London did not prove to be a savory experience for the local fans as their hometown hero Leon Edwards, failed to get back on his winning ways and got choked out by Sean Brady. A real bummer! However, they still have something to look forward to as interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall provided an update on his long-awaited unification bout against Jon Jones after meeting up with the UFC executives in London.
It is safe to say that the Brit was a busy man last weekend as he met UFC fans during fight week. Moreover, his shenanigans were on full display when he sat with a yellow plastic duck and an astonished look on his face after the cameras focused on him. “Ducking” shots anyone? The most important segment of the business was to meet matchmaker Hunter Campbell, and according to the Manchester native, things became clearer to him as to where he and the undisputed champ stood in this situation. Nevertheless, Aspinall claims that the situation is not against him as the UFC is expected to make an announcement pretty soon. And it is going to be something huge!
“We did a little meet and greet… Straight after that, we went across town and met Hunter [Campbell]. That was probably around 10.30 pm,” Aspinall stated on ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’. “Hunter has always been extremely personable and reasonable with me… we had a fantastic meeting. Everything went amazing. I understand my position now. I understand what the company’s doing now, and you gotta stay tuned, my friend. There’s some big news coming.”

Moreover, there have been nine pay-per-view events since we saw Tom Aspinall in action. The reason behind him sitting on the sidelines, according to the consensus, is Jones, who’s allegedly stalling the division and forcing the interim king to sit on the sidelines. Well, Aspinall has been pretty clear that if it’s not ‘Bones’, he will take on anyone. As long as he is getting that undisputed gold, he is ready to go out and bang. Interestingly, the Englishman doesn’t feel that he has been out for too long.
“After the meeting, I’m feeling very optimistic about things. I’m in a really, really, really good spot with everything and my future moving forward,” Tom Aspinall added. “People are saying, ‘Oh, Jon Jones is holding up your career’, and stuff. It’s only been 7 months, it’s not too bad. I don’t wanna say too much, but it is exciting stuff in the future.”

“It’s just a matter of when now and getting it signed and done and the fight will happen,” Dana White told TNT Sports. “It’s done but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date… It’s just a matter of getting it signed now… I’ve said it many times in between and I will say it again now, the fight’s going to happen.”
The heavyweight title needs to get unified as it has been well over a year that the two belts have been active. With a positive nod from Tom Aspinall and Dana White, people could start to believe that the fight was on. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
