The newly crowned UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has been riding high since his victory against Curtis Blaydes last week in Manchester, England, at UFC 304. But, despite repeatedly calling out UFC heavyweight king Jon Jones, he hasn’t secured the fight yet and must wait until November when Jon Jones faces Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden. After that, Aspinall is set to fight the winner for the unified title.

However, even with the interim belt, Aspinall’s desire for a fight with Jones hasn’t diminished. In a recent TNT Sports interview, he openly expressed jealousy towards Stipe Miocic, indicating his growing frustration with the current situation. Aspinall even went so far as to compare Miocic to former US President Joe Biden in the discussion. He stated, “When he gets Stipe out of there, let’s be honest. The guy is 43 years old, and while he’s an absolute legend in the sport—statistically the best heavyweight ever—the guy needs to be Joe Biden’s mate, he’s too old. No one’s that interested anymore.”

Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 295 last year, but Jones pulled out at the last minute due to a torn pectoral muscle injury he suffered in training. This led to a clash between British phenom Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title belt.

Since then, Aspinall has been waiting for Jon Jones to recover and unify the title. It seems increasingly unlikely now, as ‘Bones’ has recently hinted at retirement.

Jon Jones hinted at his retirement

UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is eager to see Jon Jones back in action. However, Aspinall’s anticipation is tempered by uncertainty over Jones’ future. After a 2-year stint in the UFC, the 37-year-old has hinted at retirement.

Recently, in response to a fan’s comment, Jones declared that his upcoming fight against Stipe Miocic would be his last. He stated on Instagram, “Fun fact after this year Jon Jones will never have to work again, retired at age 37,”

Rumors have circulated throughout the MMA world that Jon Jones is avoiding a fight against Tom Aspinall. However, ‘Bones’ has dismissed these rumors, stating that he is solely focused on his upcoming fight against Miocic, as he believes a victory over Micocic will solidify his legacy in the UFC in an even more significant way.
