Jake Paul earning respect from pros—Is he the real deal or just a hype machine?

Tom Aspinall just gave his opinion on Jake Paul and it is surprising! The Brit most recently won against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 and now is eying Jon Jones. While waiting on a hard-earned title shot, Aspinall turned his attention to Jake Paul with the ‘Cobra’ aka Carl Froch who seems interested in the boxer. Jake Paul just defeated Mike Perry and is now waiting for his fight with Mike Tyson. Froch expressed his desire to fight the YouTuber / boxer in the future and the pair had a chat about Paul’s exploits.

However, Aspinall had a different advice for the four-time world champion. Let’s see what he had to say.

‘Honey Badger’ was speaking to the former unified IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion about UFC and other topics on the show. This is when they talked about ‘The Problem Child’ and Froch showed his interest in a bout with the former. Aspinall said, “If you want my honest opinion I think you are above that I don’t think you should not do it (fight Jake Paul).” Froch suggested that there was a lot of money in it and the UFC interim heavyweight champion consoled saying he already has money.

Froch then said, “And I won’t want to get punched in the head by anybody who would seriously punch because my health is more important. But I just think Jake Paul is fuc**g easy work mate.” This is when Aspinall confessed that Paul might be better than he originally estimated but he is not good if compared to a boxing world champ. He said, “In all honesty, he is better than I originally, thought but if you compare him to like an actual boxing world champion…”

However, Aspinall did warn Mike Tyson over the fight with Jake Paul. He believes that Tyson is taking a big chance by going up against Paul. This is mainly because of his age and Tyson is almost 60 whereas Paul is just 27. On top of that the fight was postponed because Tyson suffered an ulcer flare on the weeks out from the fight. He also praised Paul’s marketing genius but also said on the same podcast, “My only beef with Jake Paul is he can’t fight, he can’t call himself a professional boxer. He’s not even in shape. He looks fleshy. I don’t even know if he takes the training that seriously … It’s ridiculous.” However Aspinall had once complimented the boxer in 2022, let’s take a look!

Have an interesting take?

The former Disney star has moved into boxing and has won most of his fights. This is making the combat sports world talk and Tom Aspinall is in on it as well. Recently his opinions have changed a bit on Paul and he does not consider him to be a ‘real’ boxer perhaps. However, in 2022 he complimented the star.

He said, “I think what he has done, for me, I can’t help but be impressed by that. Like I think it’s good. And I like the way, might be controversial, but I quite like the way he carries himself. If it’s not for me, I wouldn’t do that. But he and I are different people. So I like it.”

On the other hand, he has also been taking cues from boxing, which is Paul’s domain. He had utilized a unique routine for UFC 304 where he woke up at 4 am to get his body used to the timing of the event. He said in MMA Hour that he got up at 4 am and then did a bit of shadowboxing in the hay bales. He also dipped his hand in the petrol for 20 minutes to make the knuckles harder.

Petrol and hay bales are tips that he picked up from the 2011 documentary Knuckle. This is a movie showing the Irish Traveller bare knuckle fights and features the Joyce family.

So what are your thoughts on Jake Paul? Do you agree with Tom Aspinall’s take on the subject?
