Done and dusted—Gable Steveson has claimed yet another Big 10 Heavyweight Championship. Facing Greg Kerkvliet from Penn State, ‘Golden Gabe’ dominated his opponent, securing a commanding 10-3 victory in favor of the Gopher WC wrestler. Known for his gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and his stints in WWE and the NFL, Steveson is back where he truly belongs. Taking to social media, Jon Jones and fans alike have praised Steveson’s impressive triumph.
As Gable Steveson became the only wrestler ever to win four Big 10 Heavyweight Championships in its history, Jon Jones couldn’t help but share a story about his friend’s success on his Instagram story. It is worth noting that the undisputed heavyweight champion has been training with Steveson for quite some time and is known to share a strong and healthy relationship with him.
Interestingly, ‘Golden Gabe’ recently mentioned that his fitness is returning back to its peak form, and the same can be said about his career. The Minnesota wrestler, who dominated the NCAA DI rankings at 285 lbs from 2019 to 2022, has reclaimed the top spot after his return to collegiate competition. Is the wrestler rooting for the Olympics next? Well, we might not be for now but one thing is certain Jon Jones is proud of the achievement of his friend and training partner.

Back in 2024, while having a conversation with the media, the UFC heavyweight champion asserted that his friend Gable Steveson could be a threat to everyone in the UFC’s heavyweight division if he trained in MMA and decided to make a debut under Dana White-led promotion, “He’s gonna be scary,” Jon Jones said of Steveson. “He’s gonna be very scary when he decides to do MMA. He knows how to make men appear very weak. Me being one of ’em.” Steveson was also in camp to help Jones prepare for Stipe Miocic.

Many within the wrestling community believed that Greg Kerkvliet would be the kryptonite to Steveson’s Superman. However, they utterly underestimated the will of the Gofers wrestler. Kerkvliet offered little resistance as Steveson swiftly secured a first-period takedown, taking a 3-0 lead. Looking at this a fan wrote, “Damn why I thought it was going to be a close match.”
Furthermore, another fan highlighted that Steveson should go back to the Olympics, “Bro needs to go back for the Olympics.” After his Olympic endeavor, Steveson tried his luck in both WWE NXT and even in the NFL. However, with less success under his banner, the Minnesota wrestler went back to his roots. A fan wrote, “Bro had a wwe match signed to the practice squad and went back to college?”
