Khalil Rountree Jr. is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever come across. ‘The War Horse’, after all, is a soft-spoken, extremely respectful, take-the-high-road kinda guy. Fans will remember beloved professional motor-mouth and self-admitted psychopath Sean Strickland calling the California native a “beta male” recently, which Rountree Jr. didn’t even respond to.
Until you find yourself in the Octagon with the #8 ranked light heavyweight, you will have no idea what a nightmare he truly is. The ferocious striker is famous for sending his opponents to the nether realm. A veritable knockout artist with lethal speed and concussive power, ‘The War Horse’ is what you call a pure (and very dangerous) KO artist.
That is why fans are so excited to see him take on 205-pound champion Alex Pereira and his sublime striking. After all, their clash is expected to be a veritable striking masterclass with an almost guaranteed knockout to end the fight. And while fans are well aware of ‘Poatan’ and his prowess on the feet, UFC commentator Joe Rogan broke down exactly what makes ‘The War Horse’ so dangerous.

“It’s very interesting, ‘cuz Khalil’s so fast and Khalil’s had experience with high-level kickboxers. When he knocked out Gokhan Saki, that was a big one, you know… Khalil’s fast, he hits f***ing hard and he throws, like that thing that he did with ‘Lionheart’ [Anthony Smith]. He throws that off-speed sh** sometimes. He gives you a little of this and then he jolts in on you. That off-speed upper-cut was nasty,” Rogan told Israel Adesanya on his JRE podcast.

As Rogan pointed out, the one word that comes to mind when thinking about Rountree’s knockouts, it’s brutal or maybe comical, because of how his opponents react to getting hit by him. You will remember his last outing in the Octagon, where he hit Anthony Smith with such a vicious uppercut, left hook combo that knocked out ‘Lionheart’ in one of the ‘goofiest’ yet disastrous ways possible. And ‘The War Horse’ has promised more of the same against ‘Poatan’ at UFC 307.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Khalil Rountree's knockout power dethrone Alex Pereira, or is 'Poatan' just too dominant?

Rountree Jr. and Pereira pack ferocious strength in their hands, combined with their strategic sense and high fight IQ. Naturally, even a momentary lapse in concentration can send either man crashing to the canvas to be woken up by your team. At least in theory, the Brazilian juggernaut has the edge. After all, he is the champ and Rountree Jr. is ranked #8.

But this is the UFC and no one can predict what the MMA gods want! Especially if you have the supreme confidence in yourself that Rountree Jr. has. In a recent interview, the American challenger made clear he had one goal in mind for UFC 307- ‘knockout Pereira’. Even if that is the most dangerous strategy against the ‘mystic’ power of the champion.
Why? Well because that’s what the fans want to see. And Rountree Jr. will be damned if he didn’t give the fans what they want. “The main reason that I’ve always wanted this fight is for the fans. You got two of the best strikers in the world going at it and that’s what I want to give the fans,” he said. No wonder the UFC world is salivating at the mere thought of this fight. What are your predictions for Pereira-Rountree?
