Colby Covington, the former UFC welterweight title challenger, is infamous for having a feud with almost every fighter in the promotion. However, there are very few who share a good bond with him. Interestingly, UFC legend Chael Sonnen falls under this bracket.
In his previous interview with Helen Yee, ‘Chaos’ talked highly about Sonnen. Responding to this, the former UFC middleweight title challenger Sonnen not only lauded the Californian but also backed his suggestion to move up the division and fight for the middleweight gold in the future.

During an interview with Helen Yee Sports, Sonnen said, “Colby made a suggestion that I am gonna take that golden ticket. I am gonna go up to 185 pounds. I think he should be allowed to do it. You cannot be a number one contender and not get a title shot.”
“It’s not right. I want to see Colby Covington fight Izzy [Israel] Adesanya. And quite frankly, Izzy Adesanya needs somebody that’s gonna meet him halfway. I think that Adesanya is also a master,” Sonnen added.
“I think he’s a master entertainer on the weight of the ring, what he does, and before he leaves the microphone behind. He needs somebody that can match him… Those two need each other right now. They can form a partnership and they can go do some business.” Sonnen concluded.

This came after ‘Chaos’ claimed he would opt for the 185 lbs gold if he doesn’t get a third title shot against Kamaru Usman. Given Adesanya’s and Covington’s entertaining persona, Sonnen believes it would be a great match-up for the fans. However, this idea didn’t sit well with the middleweight champion.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Adesanya said, “Yeah, I say just, you know, fight someone else. You can’t just come straight for the champ. Who the f**k are you? Yeah, I’m like, ‘Are you dumb?’ Yeah, call someone else out. Call someone else out.”
‘The Last Stylebender’ has been sitting atop the middleweight division since 2019. Having defeated almost every top contender on the roster, Adesanya now has enrolled his name in the greatest middleweight fighters list.

Meanwhile, ‘Chaos’ is also one of the best fighters in welterweight division. However, he is yet to lay his hands on the 170 lbs gold. And if he wins the title at 170 lbs, there will not be much for him to prove. Then, it will be viable for ‘Chaos’ to move up and face Izzy.
