After Jorge Masvidal‘s retirement, the position of BMF Champion was left vacant. Now, finally, there is some clarity on who will take the position. Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will come face-to-face for a rematch in UFC 291. The winner of the two will be crowned the new BMF champion. The UFC president, Dana White, gave the complete details of the event on Tuesday. The bout for the BMF title will be held on July 29th at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.

Both ‘Diamond’ and ‘The Highlight’ have previously locked horns at UFC on Fox 29. Back then, it was Poirier who won the match in the fourth round via TKO. The two fighters are going to face each other once again after five long years. Another fascinating part of the fight card is the co-main event. In the co-main event, the former light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz, will lock horns against the former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira. It would be Pereira’s debut fight in the light heavyweight division.

The UFC is bringing the “BMF” title back into the fold. The bout between Poirier and Gaethje is indeed the most interesting bout on the card. Other than them, the main card also has Paulo Costa, who will fight against Ikram Aliskerov. Then there is Tony Ferguson against Bobby Green, and the bout between Michael Chiesa and Kevin Holland will also be there. The first bout between ‘The Diamond’ and ‘The Highlight’ was held on April 14, 2018. After the bout, the careers of both fighters changed tremendously. Gaethje was able to win six bouts after fighting Poirier.

In between, he also lost against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira. Similarly, Poirier also secured six victories after fighting against Gaethje. Two of his victories were against UFC superstar Conor McGregor. Also, he lost two fights, which were against Nurmagomedov and Oliveira. After coming across reports of a rematch between the two, fans have had mixed responses.
