The UFC commentator is good friends with Elon Musk and admires his body of work. He has also hosted the tech billionaire on his show multiple times. Over their many conversations, the pair have discussed scientific subjects like AI and different types of work done by Musk’s own company. One of Musk’s ventures that captured Rogan’s attention was the AI chatbot that has taken the world by storm- ChatGPT.
In episode #1934 of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan hosted scientist and researcher Lex Fridman. Fridman’s work focuses on fields like Artificial Intelligence and autonomous vehicles. The host of ‘The Lex Fridman Podcast’ was therefore the perfect choice for Rogan to discuss the new revolutionary chatbot with.

Rogan jumped straight into the subject as soon as their conversation started, asking, “What have your people done? Your AI people with this f***ing Chat GPT sh*t. This sh*t scares the f**k out of me,” he said.
Fridman joked, asking what his host meant by “your people.” The 55-year-old responded, “Your AI people. Your whacky coders. What have you done?”
Fridman then gave Rogan a rundown about the language models that underlay ChatGPT and how the software development progressed over the years. Speaking of the mechanics behind ChatGPT, Fridman explained it as a giant brain that had been trained in different ways.

Prompting Fridman to talk more about the subject, Rogan said, “I’m fascinated by it.” However, his conversation with Bret Weinstein from a previous episode of JRE had a different tone.
What Weinstein told Rogan about ChatGPT

In episode #1919 of JRE, Rogan hosted evolutionary biologist Bret Weinstein. The pair had a discussion about ChatGPT during their conversation as well. While he appreciated the advancements that ChatGPT had made, Weinstein had his reasons to worry about the AI chatbot.
He said, “I am quite alarmed, not only that this thing exists, but I don’t think we’re ready for it. And I don’t think we’re ready for it in a couple different ways.”
However, he also pointed out one point of relief desire for the AI’s impressive capabilities- “I mean… we have this AI that can do these really shocking things. The comforting thing is that the way it’s programmed, it doesn’t know what it’s saying.”
