He said, “I appreciate the support. It’s Friday night, the fight’s tomorrow. So this one here is for my man Dominick Cruz. This is for Dominick Cruz’s a**, but I gotta get back to the hotel and get my studying done.”
This was in response to Cruz’s scathing critique of Cormier’s commentary during the fights. In a media press conference ahead of his bout with Pedro Munhoz, Cruz critiqued ‘DC’s commentary.
Cormier has of late been taking a lot of flak from fighters who claim that his commentary is biased. Many allege that ‘DC’ is partial in the way he calls the fights of teammates, like Islam Makhachev. Cormier has denied all these claims, asserting that he calls the fights how he sees them and attempts to give both fighters their due.
Cormier is a two-division champion in the UFC. His experience in the cage and expertise cultivated from years of wrestling is extremely insightful. Many fans appreciate his presence in the broadcast booth. Winning the personality of the year award is a testament to that.
The award is only given to a leading MMA personality whose engaging persona is a credit to the sport of mixed martial arts.
