Surging UFC lightweight Terrance McKinney had a disappointing outing at UFC 283. The 28-year-old competed against Brazil’s Ismael Bonfim in what was Bonfim’s debut fight. After a competitive first round, Bonfim knocked McKinney out with a devastating jumping switch knee. McKinney had established himself as a promising prospect with his impressive performances in the UFC. Therefore, quite a few veterans of the game, like Michael Bisping and Stephen Thompson, offered their support to the young fighter after a disappointing night at the office. However, McKinney did not have an issue with the fight as much as he did with a prominent news outlet.

Hours after the contest, McKinney responded to a tweet from ‘Barstool Sports’ with a tweet of his own. Suffice it to say, the fighter and the outlet are less than pleased with each other at the moment.

Shortly after McKinney lost to Bonfim, Barstool Sports sent out a tweet taking a dig at McKinney, Along with an image of McKinney knocked out, the tweet read “Terrance McKinney Gets Knocked Out Cold Just Hours After Claiming Barstool Didn’t Know Sports.”

The 28-year-old did not take kindly to Barstool’s tweet and responded, “You still don’t lol.”

In a quoted tweet, ‘TWrecks’ further added, “This is why I’ll never rock with Barstool.”

The tweet also had an article linked to it, which detailed McKinney’s contest against Bonfim. Furthermore, it also explained the reason behind this ongoing beef between the athlete and the outlet.

So what exactly is the problem between McKinney and Barstool Sports?

The story behind the beef

It all stemmed from a series of Twitter exchanges that went down prior to McKinney’s UFC 283 bout. Barstool’s Jack McGuire responded to a fan’s tweet hyping McKinney, saying that Bonfim would win the fight. However, McKinney himself later responded, “It’s all good barstool isn’t known for actually knowing sports.”

The exchange gained some traction on Twitter and several fans said that McKinney aimed his dig at the company and not McGuire himself. However, the lightweight himself clarified the situation later, saying, “Na that’s definitely toward Jack too.”

Therefore, following his loss, Barstool returned fire with an article of their own, summing up the result of the fight and highlighting how their man was right about his Twitter prediction.

Incidentally, this is not the first time Barstool Sports has had beef with a UFC fighter. Recently, Barstool founder Dave Portnoy and UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje had a spat on Twitter. The pair got into a heated row over Paddy Pimblett’s win at UFC 282.
