Sean O’Malley proved to the world that he is indeed worth all the hype. He stunned the world after scoring a knockout victory over Aljamain Sterling to win the bantamweight title in his first-ever title fight. Some people opined that ‘Suga’ may have become a star after the win. However, UFC president Dana White claims that he is already a star.

Aljamain Sterling had been one of the most dominant champions in recent memory. Some fans even believe that he’s arguably the greatest bantamweight fighter of all time. However, Sean O’Malley did not break a sweat during the title fight against ‘Funk Master’. Moreover, UFC 292 broke all kinds of previous records at the TD Garden.

Sean O’Malley headliner, recorded the highest ticket sales in Boston

During the post-fight press conference, Dana White claimed that UFC 292 broke the all-time gate record at the TD Garden. He also mentioned how the biggest ticket sales record was held by Rock legend Bruce Springsteen, which was $5 million. However, this time, the UFC did over seven million in ticket sales. White said, “We broke the all-time gate record here. Bruce Springsteen just played here and did five million. We did over seven million.”

Furthermore, he mentioned that Boston is one of the biggest sporting cities in the world. Besides the excitement surrounding their own sports teams, the UFC proved to be a big sport in the city. Dana White believes that it is all because of Sean O’Malley headlining the pay-per-view.

The UFC president further added, “The Boston Garden.. the craziest f***ing sports town on Earth other than their own team that plays here, we’re the biggest thing that’s ever been here. What does that tell you about O’Malley?” Furthermore, Dana White already thinks that O’Malley is one of the biggest draws in the promotion.

Dana White claims ‘Suga’ is already a “star”

The 54-year-old promoter stated that Aljamain Sterling vs Sean O’Malley was the biggest bantamweight title fight ever on pay-per-view. Moreover, he credited ‘Suga’ the most for achieving that feat. Dana White said, “This is also the biggest bantamweight championship fight ever on pay-per-view globally.”

He also spoke about the reaction from the crowd after O’Malley knocked out Sterling for the victory. He believes that this speaks volumes about the new champion. So he thinks that O’Malley’s already a superstar in the UFC. “I am sure you saw the crowd at the end. O’Malley isn’t gonna be a star, he is a star,” said the UFC president.

Now that O’Malley is a champion, he has his sights set on earning back the fight he lost. He expressed to his fans before the Sterling fight that he hopes Marlon Vera will be his first title defense. It remains to be seen what will happen in the future. But for now, he will relish his first-ever championship win in the UFC.
