Francis Ngannou sent tremors down the combat sports world when he exited the UFC earlier this year. Now, the former UFC heavyweight champion has made a historic announcement with his PFL signing. What makes Ngannou’s signing to PFL a potential landmark move for the sport are the conditions under which the deal came to be, like becoming the Chairman of PFL Africa. Many blamed the Cameroonian for fumbling the bag and overplaying his hand following the UFC exit. Now, Ngannou has proved all his doubters wrong with one master stroke.
The Francis Ngannou saga had many interesting twists and turns. A lot of doubt regarding The Predator’s future came from the news of several promotions dropping out of the race to sign him. Many leading players in the game, including ONE Championship, Bellator, and Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, were reported to be after the heavyweight.
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship’s president David Feldman’s claims about Ngannou added to his criticisms. Feldman declared that Ngannou was asking for “unrealistic money.” He cited the exorbitant price tag as BKFC’s reason for withdrawing from the race to sign the 36-year-old.

Now, Ngannou has come forward to clarify the situation and speak his side of the story.
Francis Ngannou responds to David Feldman’s comments
Hours after the PFL announcement, Francis Ngannou came on ‘The MMA Hour’ for a chat with Ariel Helwani. For months, Ngannou had sat back patiently as others crucified him. Now that he had achieved what he set out to do, he decided to speak his side of the story.
When Helwani asked him about Feldman’s comments, the heavyweight held nothing back. He said, “I just think he assumed that I’m so expensive. Obviously, because you have to take a loan on his house to put on the show. Then I think he assumed that the loan couldn’t pay me because I never spoke to him. My team never spoke to him.”

He continued, “Then when I saw his comments I’m like ‘Where’s this guy coming from?’ Then I checked my phone. I called my team.” He shared that his team never spoke to Feldman.
‘The Predator’ finally added, “So that’s why I didn’t even talk about it. I’m like ‘This guy is just a joke.'”
Now that you have two sides to the story, who do you think is speaking the truth? What do you make of Ngannou’s new PFL deal? Do you think it will be good for the sport in the long run?
