A viral clip showing a mismatch of an MMA fight has been doing the rounds of MMA pages online recently. The video included two fighters, Raymison Formiga and Roger Dalet facing each other in a modern David vs. Goliath setup while a crowd was seen enjoying the spectacle. Although there have been multiple fights where fans have lashed out at the absurdity of it, this surprisingly didn’t fall into that category. What’s interesting was that Formiga, who merely weighed 130 pounds, ended up winning the fight via an armbar. Since there is no official confirmation as to why the fight was arranged, MMA fans started comparing it to the days of PRIDE FC when rules around the sport were very different and not as strict as it is now. While Formiga was clearly an impressive fighter, doubts over Dalet‘s credibility were also raised by fans.

Raymison Formiga, a 130 lb fighter submits heavyweight Roger Dalet

The fight, surprisingly, was quite interesting as both started cautious and wary of each other’s strengths. Formiga didn’t wait too long as he went for a takedown against the cage. The heavyweight, despite not being technical, tried muscling himself out of the double leg, but eventually gave up his back in the process. Although he did get up at one point, it didn’t take too long for Formiga to take down Dalet once again and mount him. He then utilized his superior grappling to transition to an armbar that forced Dalet to tap.

Looking at the fight, it was quite obvious that the heavyweight clearly lacked grappling and any form of wrestling. Although his size advantage helped him for a bit, Formiga‘s skills eventually proved to be too much.

MMA Fans in a frenzy after Formiga, wins via submission

MMA fanatics were left shocked as the clip got viral. While many wondered why and who commissioned a fight of such measure, others decided to commend the smaller fighter for his skills. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions that stood out.

Someone pointed out the obvious lack of grappling skills

“The big dude didn’t seem to have much in the way of grappling skills.”

Another MMA fan stated how he found it funny that Dalet tried using his brute strength.

“It was hilarious when small guy was trying to lock his hands behind his leg for a takedown and big guy just lifted him off the ground lol.”

There was clearly no lack of jokes in the comments section.

“This is why we have weight classes.. to protect the big guys.”

The best one was the reference to former UFC fighters Demetrious Johnson and Francis Ngannou fighting each other.

“This clearly proves DJ can beat Ngannou.”

Naturally, David and Goliath’s reference had to come up.

“David subs Goliath!” David looks like he might be a fighter, Goliath looks like he may have lifted weights in high school 5+ years ago.

Another hardcore MMA fan talked about PRIDE FC

Someone pointed out that the fight was organized as an experiment between different fighters of different sizes and skill levels.

“This is a fight between a small professional fighter versus a giant amateur, for the purpose of experimentation.”

While this was definitely a mismatch, it clearly was not one of those where a fighter gets brutally beaten up over the duration of the fight. Both looked efficient, considering all the differences they had in terms of skills and size. Although one definitely has to commend the smaller fighter for his skills, which helped him get the win.
