If mixed martial arts teaches us anything, it is that size is not really that important. Skills, technique and fight IQ count for a lot when it comes to MMA combat. That is not to say that size is not a huge advantage. After all, the reason so many weight classes exist in combat sports is that a fair contest can only be had among fighters who are approximately the same size.

However, the question of how much of a size discrepancy skill can overcome remains unanswered. But, we may just find out pretty soon, if the grappling match between MMA maestro Demetrious Johnson and bodybuilder Bradley Martyn goes ahead. And recently dethroned UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has taken a subtle dig at the bodybuilder with a recent social media post.

Sterling, who recently lost his bantamweight crown to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292, posted a story on his Instagram that was a subtle dig at Martyn. The story was a video of a couple of fighters in a gym talking about leg kicks and how prepared they were to take them. The boxer, who fights at 203 pounds then takes a leg kick from a 155-pound MMA fighter. He did not handle the kick well and started to cry out in pain.

Sterling captioned the Story “When you’re 260 and think you can take leg kicks because your 260”, taking a jab at Martyn and his 260-pound frame, which the bodybuilder has claimed would let him beat trained fighters. Martyn has pointed out that he was not just a big, stiff bodybuilder, but a genuine athlete with genuine explosiveness and speed.
