Joe Rogan isn’t just the biggest podcast host- he’s also a magnet of unwanted controversies. Whether it’s his own unfiltered opinion or the belief of his guests, Rogan has time and time again found himself in the pit of controversies. His back-and-forth with virologist Dr. Robert Malone back in 2022 was such an instance in his career that it nearly ended his glorious run as the podcasting king. Backlashes, protests, and even public defamation followed Rogan but despite that, he still managed to keep his Spotify deal with him. How? Well, Rogan has himself answered it.
Joe Rogan invited Dr. Robert Malone to be his guest at “JRE #1757” to discuss COVID-19. During that three-hour-long episode, Malone came forward with explosive claims about COVID-19 and vaccine science. Malone accused the Biden administration of concealing information about vaccines and the virus. This caused a severe backlash which spread like wildfire as several prominent musicians and podcasters left Spotify in protest of Joe Rogan.
Conclusion? Joe Rogan had to issue an apology and remove 70 old episodes of his podcast due to racially insensitive content. However, despite the backlash, Spotify didn’t remove Rogan from their app.

Why? Well, according to the podcaster, Spotify did not align themselves with the backlash, “Well, fortunately, they’re not American. It’s not an American company, you know. Oh, yeah. They’re from Sweden? Ah, okay. Yeah, so they’re like, ‘Eh, we’re not buying it,” said Rogan in his conversation with Woody Harrelson on ‘JRE 2277.’

He further added, “Also, the show was big enough where they were like, ‘Why would we pull this thing off the air? Let’s hang in there and see what happens.’ And it just kept getting bigger. So they realized that people were basically on the side of free distribution of information, and they didn’t buy it.”

Spotify refused to take disciplinary action against Joe Rogan and what followed was a successful podcast that gave the streaming giant profits. Last year, the Swedish music streaming giant renewed its deal with Rogan for a massive $250 million. Additionally, the podcaster has now returned to YouTube as well. This was nothing but a win-win for him. However, his rankings have been a bit unstable for now.
American author beats Joe Rogan for a fourth consecutive time
Joe Rogan stands at the pinnacle of the podcasting realm. His diversified episodes with different guests have kept him at the top of the rankings for a long time but it appears that the Goliath has finally found his David. After being at the top of the Spotify ranking for months, Joe Rogan has been finally dethroned by none other than NYT best-seller author Mel Robbins.

According to Jedi I Goodman, Robbin’s self-help-packed podcast dealing with the daily lives of people has trounced Joe Rogan in the latest Spotify rankings. What’s quite funny about this is the fact that she started her podcasting journey back in 2022 as a birthday project. Well, Robbin’s approach to podcasts differs from Joe Rogan’s.
While ‘JRE’ focuses on the less known topics about the world, Robbins Podcast markets itself as the ultimate guide to transforming your life, tactical advice, and motivational nuggets. To be honest, should Rogan worry about this? Maybe not as he has been dethroned multiple times by other podcasters, but they fail to deliver the consistency, which is Rogan’s key trait. Given that, what are your thoughts on ‘Joe Rogan Experience’? State your thoughts in the comments below.
