Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor had not just one of the most intense rivalries, but also one of the most entertaining ones in the history of the UFC. They fought twice and share one win each over their rivals. The UFC even approached Diaz for a trilogy fight with ‘Notorious’. However, there was a twist in the terms.

Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor had two of the highest-selling UFC fights ever. Both of their fights had almost 3 million pay-per-view sales. Their heated rivalry and opposing personalities attracted a lot of viewers to tune in and see McGregor and Diaz go at each other.

A video posted by a media outlet on YouTube shows Nate Diaz revealing the UFC’s plan for him to fight the former double champion. This was the time when Conor McGregor had to take time off from the Octagon to tend to his leg injury. Diaz said, “They wanted me to fight, sign to fight Conor once.” Moreover, the promotion wanted to keep the Stockton native busy with McGregor’s previous opponent, Dustin Poirier. However, a match with ‘The Diamond’ didn’t interest Nate Diaz.

The Stockton native added, “They wanted me to fight Poirier in the meantime but he just got choked by everybody. I’m like, ‘Go win some fights, I’ll fight you.'” Furthermore, when he mentioned the UFC asking him to sign a contract for a fight with McGregor, they wanted to add another fight to the contract. However, the second fight would have only been added if Diaz emerged victorious in the trilogy fight. He said, “They wanted me to fight him [Poirier] to kill time for Conor to heal up and come back and then they wanted me to sign for another fight with Conor but only if I win. What the f***?”

Conor McGregor is still looking for the trilogy fight

During an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ a couple of months ago, Conor McGregor expressed his desire to fight Nate Diaz for a third time. He was not disappointed with the fact that his comeback will happen against Michael Chandler because he believes he will surely get the fight against the Stockton native in the future. McGregor told Ariel Helwani, “I will get that again [Fight with Nate Diaz]. That trilogy will happen at some stage for sure.”
