Some fighters sell more than others, and it is not always proportional to their feats inside the octagon. Trash talk, highlight-worthy KOs, and sometimes just a ‘badass’ persona can turn a fighter into a PPV star. It might be a hard pill to swallow, but it’s something everybody in the MMA community is well aware of.
Great examples of this would be former UFC veterans Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. Neither of the two athletes ever held the UFC gold, but their fan-favorite status made them sell PPVs like hotcakes, even more so than their champion counterparts. But what if a PPV star becomes a champion?

In the main event of UFC 292, Sean O’Malley beat Aljamain Sterling to claim the Bantamweight Gold. Despite being an underdog, ‘Sugar’ finished ‘Funk Master’ in the second round of what would have been a five-round fight. Usually, the UFC is quite protective of their IP. In fact, one cannot expect a free upload of a PPV for at least a few months or even years.
Never before in UFC history has the promotion uploaded an entire PPV main event to their YouTube channel immediately.
This tells you all you need to know about what they think about the star potential of Sean O’Malley.

But this wasn’t the case with this fight, as the promotion uploaded the entire main event on their YouTube channel, not months, but just moments after the conclusion of the event. But what makes the UFC upload such a viral moment beyond their paywalls immediately? According to many, it’s the star potential of Sean O’Malley.
Ever since his debut in 2018, Sean O’Malley has been a part of every list of rising prospects. This is something that he has lived up to with his performance, as his current UFC record stands at 9 wins, 1 loss, and 1 No Contest. But aside from his resume, the fighter is noted for his charismatic persona, ostentatious style, and flashy striking. All of which make for a great recipe for a future star. And it seems like the UFC realizes this well.
Fans react to UFC breaking their tradition
Dana White and the company love to keep their content behind the paywalls, and fans seem to be well aware of this fact. But when the UFC broke their tradition and uploaded the highlight-worthy conclusion of UFC 292, fans couldn’t help themselves from reacting. Here are some of the selected reactions from Twitter.
Some praise for Sean O’Malley as fans seem convinced about the star potential of ‘Suga’.
