The UFC 310 rematch between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov was expected to deliver an exciting showdown but sparked controversy instead. Gane’s split decision victory left fans, commentators, and even Dana White questioning the outcome. Was it a fair result, or did something shady unfold under the bright lights of the Octagon?
As soon as the result was announced, Ciryl Gane began to leave the Octagon amid a booing crowd without even speaking to Joe Rogan, before being ushered back in for the post-fight interview. Following him was Alexander Volkov, who seemed both angry and confused about what had just transpired. Dana White had to step in to console the Russian fighter, admitting that he, too, was baffled by the situation. Now former champion Robert Whittaker has also shared his honest opinion on the whole situation.

At the end of the UFC 310 main card heavyweight clash, when the judges announced their decision—29-28, 28-29, 29-28 in favor of Gane—a wave of shock spread through the crowd. Gane, limping out of the cage, looked victorious yet clearly frustrated, while Alexander Volkov stood motionless, his face showing pure disbelief. Disbelief is what ‘The Reaper’ also felt when he heard the decision. The former champion sat down for a chat with Jonny Roses on the MMA Arcade Podcast to discuss the recently concluded event. Whittaker seemed highly disappointed with the result and shared his honest opinion on the lopsided decision.
He said, “Mate, I definitely had him pegged for winning. Like you could see Ciryl thought he [Volkov] won. Yeah it was straight robbery”. The Aussie fighter also pointed out how the fight held a lot of importance for both fighters. According to him the winner of the fight would have got a title shot and Volkov was denied the opportunity. Whittaker further added, “They stole that W from Volkov which is upsetting because that was such a high-stakes fight. The winner of that obviously moves forward towards a title shot or title contention.”

As the decision sank in, Dana White walked over to Volkov, to comfort the Russian fighter in the aftermath of the controversial outcome. Amid the chaos, a humorous exchange from a six-year-old UFC event has resurfaced, bringing some lightheartedness to the tense situation. The exchange, between Jon Anik, Daniel Cormier, and Joe Rogan, centered around Byrd’s controversial scoring, adding a bit of comic relief to the drama.

Joe Rogan and his team share their honest opinion on the judge at the UFC 310
Adelaide Byrd made headlines in 2017 when she scored the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin fight 118-110 in favor of the Mexican boxer, drawing widespread criticism from across the sports world. In light of that boxing match, Joe Rogan’s comments about Judge Adelaide Byrd from six years ago once again gained new relevance this past weekend at UFC 310. A video shared by ‘Basedgoodie’ captured the conversation between the commentary team during UFC 222, which took place in March 2018. Anik announced the judges for the fight between Bryan Carraway and Cody Stamann, mentioning that one of them was Adelaide Byrd, marking her return to judging after the controversial decision in August 2016.
He joked, “We just brought up Triple G and Canelo Alvarez, so don’t shoot the messenger.” Joe Rogan quickly chimed in with a witty remark about Byrd, saying, “She’s driving a Ferrari from that fight.” Daniel Cormier couldn’t help but laugh after Rogan’s comment.

Byrd’s controversial scorecard in the Canelo vs. GGG 2 fight had sparked accusations of corruption, which led to Joe’s “Ferrari” joke. Cormier, trying to be diplomatic, quickly added, “Oh my goodness, she’s a very nice person. She’s a very nice lady. Let’s just leave it at that.” Rogan responded, “So is my mom. I wouldn’t want her judging any fights. My mom would be like, ‘Canelo’s handsome’.” The UFC has frequently faced controversy surrounding its judging, with many fans and fighters questioning the consistency and accuracy of decisions.
These controversies often overshadow the fighters’ performances, prompting calls for reforms in the judging system to ensure fairness and restore confidence in the sport’s decision-making process.
