Rivalries are the lifeblood of the UFC, but sometimes, things get personal. For Jamahal Hill, his grudge against Alex Pereira has gone far beyond memes and trash talk. It’s turned into something darker, something no fighter expects when stepping into the Octagon.“They started hitting up on my daughter,” Hill shared, referencing the disturbing direct messages sent to his daughter.
“That really pi–ed me off.” A nine-year-old was dragged into a feud that should have been left in the cage, and if there’s one thing MMA fans agree unanimously, it’s that family is completely out of bounds in trash talks. However, the story, shocking as it is, demands one question. Is Hill a victim of circumstances or is there more to his actions?
Let’s rewind. Hill’s rivalry with Pereira didn’t start with personal attacks, it started with fists flying at UFC 300. ‘Sweet Dreams’ lost via a brutal KO, but his gripes didn’t end with the fight. Claiming the Brazilian manipulated the referee by signaling off an intervention for a low blow, Hill has consistently cast doubt on the legitimacy of his defeat.

“I don’t use it as an excuse it is what happened. Like if I’m going over the fight, that happened and next thing I know motherf—er is right in my face and he caught me,” he said on The MMA Guru. It wasn’t just the American venting, or laying the groundwork for a narrative. According to him, though there were unjust actions, he has walked past them. After all, every story needs a villain, and Jamahal Hill is determined to make Pereira wear that label, maybe for the right reasons.
As it is, the internet certainly played its part. Pereira’s now-iconic Khaby Lame-inspired celebration became a meme, and Hill quickly found himself the punchline. But the trolling quickly turned darker, targeting Hill’s personal life and, shockingly, his young daughter.
Hill’s response? He didn’t hold back. “All of y’all that’s talking on these posts and all of this s–t and talking this and that…. Pull up to the gym, bro. Come get paid. I know y’all broke and need it,” he told his critics, offering $20,000 to anyone willing to spar with him in his gym. But is this about silencing the trolls? Maybe not, which led to Hill taking things into his own hands and confronting the light heavyweight kingpin directly.

Consider this, Alex Pereira is a star who is skyrocketing. He’s on the verge of becoming one of the UFC’s biggest names, possibly headlining UFC 313 as either the reigning light heavyweight champion or a contender for Jon Jones’ heavyweight belt. Meanwhile, Hill, who has brought in enough and more allegations of their last bout, is fighting to stay relevant.
His recent confrontation with Pereira at the UFC Performance Institute was significant. According to reports so far, Hill approached Pereira about the rematch. “Don’t run to heavyweight,” Hill reportedly told Pereira, calling for a rematch. Pereira’s retort? “Are you still sleeping? Have you woken up?” Gloves almost hit the floor, and tempers flared. But was it all just theater?
While it’s only natural to think that Hill is creating noise, as UFC 313 may not have space for him in Pereira’s narrative. With contenders like Jon Jones, Magomed Ankalaev, and Jiri Prochazka (depending on the outcome of the UFC 311) circling the belt, Pereira has options, and Hill isn’t his priority.

Confronting the champ at the UFC PI wasn’t a PR tactic. It’s transpired because the community brought what should’ve stayed within the Octagon to his house, to his nine-year-old daughter. Here’s the thing about UFC rivalries, they thrive on drama. And ‘Sweet Dreams’ definitely knows this. Maybe, initially keeping this feud alive was his way of setting himself up for a rematch, or at least a seat at the table when the big fights are discussed.
But now his action seems to be purely based on the blurred lines between personal and professional, something no fighter would even slightly entertain. What do you think are Hill’s actions justified, or has this rivalry taken a turn for the worse? And in all these, where do we draw the line? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
