When you have an undefeated fighter with a perfect finishing ratio, it’s a steal for any promotion. However, things can change quickly when they test positive for PEDs—and that’s exactly what happened with Danylo Voievodki. This Thursday, the UFC revealed that Dana White’s Contender Series winner Voievodki has agreed to a two-year suspension from the Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD). Why? Well, according to the reports released by the higher authority, the fighter violated the UFC anti-doping policy. A day later, the Ukranian has come forward to explain his stance.

Taking to his Instagram stories, the fighter explained that he had been framed and his manager didn’t even stand up for him in his defense, “Many questions about this, I’ll say the test taken a month and a half later was negative, meldonium is taken for almost a year. They offered me to confess and then they would cut it for half a year, I stood my ground. But my management did nothing in this situation.”

He further added, “I understand that a manager you haven’t seen in your life doesn’t care about you as a fighter. I’ll come to a conclusion: you only need to work with people you trust with everything.” According to the UFC website, Voievodkin was found to have meldonium in his system. Now, you might be wondering what might be the drug. Well, if we take a closer look then it’s an anti-ischemic drug that “may increase endurance, improve rehabilitation following exercise, and enhance activations of the central nervous system.”

Despite being banned in the United States, the substance is popular in Eastern Europe and many athletes use it for recovery. Meldonium was added to the WADA-banned list in 2016. Following his victory on Dana White’s Contender Series in September 2024, which earned him a coveted UFC contract, Voievodkin was integrated into the UFC’s Anti-Doping Program (UFC ADP) Registered Testing Pool. However, evidence confirmed that he used Meldonium after joining the program.

The fighter was riding a seven-fight winning streak with a perfect finish ratio, however, none of it will matter right now as Dana White has decided to let him go as his contract has been revoked. Well, what’s next for the Ukranian fighter?

Will Dana White ever sign Danylo Voievodki again?

Will the UFC ever sign him back? Well, the question can only be answered by the UFC head honcho Dana White. One thing is certain and that’s the fact that Voievodkin’s future in professional MMA remains uncertain after the termination of his UFC contract and since he will not be able to compete for two years, his prime fighting career will be in doldrums.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dana White right to cut ties with Voievodki, or should he get a second chance?

Have an interesting take?

So, what can the fighter do? Well, the Ukranian will have to maintain a peak physical condition during his suspensions and avoid as many PEDs as possible. In addition to that, the fighter will have to create a better image for himself after the serious violation, specifically involving meldonium, which has currently tarnished his reputation and future prospects in the MMA world.

A return to the UFC is highly unlikely, however, if he turns things around and shows a clean history in the time that he was suspended, White may just grant him entry into the world’s premier MMA promotion. Given that, what are your thoughts on the suspension? State your opinions in the comments below.
