Doping in sports is an issue of great concern. Many sports involve athletes sometimes using banned drugs used to enhance performance in attempts to gain an unfair advantage over other competitors. Famed UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan talked about the Russian athletes caught doping at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Almost dozens of Russian athletes were caught doping at the Sochi Olympics. Further, the director of Russia’s anti-doping laboratory revealed that it was a state-funded program. There were also instances when the urine samples of the athletes were discreetly replaced.

Joe Rogan had actor Jon Bernthal as his guest on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ #1916. Rogan asked Bernthal if he had seen the documentary ‘Icarus.’ The former Fear Factor host then explained, “It’s a crazy documentary. It’s insane. A big part of it is about doping that went on during Sochi Olympics, which was all completely state-sponsored. They literally put performance-enhancing drugs in all of their athletes, every single one of them.”
Rogan also explained that the ultimate aim of that state-sponsored doping program was to achieve the highest level of performance in 2014’s Olympic event. It was an attempt to show Russia’s superiority in sports.

Talking on the subject, Joe Rogan talked about the former director of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov. He was responsible for blowing the whistle on the Russian doping program. The JRE host said, “This guy [Rodchenkov] is supposed to be the head of the anti-doping agency in Russia. Really! It’s buls**t. He’s the doper.” Rogan also mentioned that at the time when Rodchenkov and Russia were getting exposed to the state-funded drug scandal. Meanwhile, the former director of the Russian anti-doping agency fled his country.

Rodchenkov later came to the United States of America and decided to blow the whistle on the scandal. “He [Rodchenkov] comes to America and just completely spills the bean. Tell them exactly how they did it, what they did, and now, to this day, he is in witness protection,” said Rogan.

They also banned Russia from the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics after the International Olympic Committee completed the Sochi investigation. Also, the athletes had come from Russia but weren’t allowed to use their national anthem or showcase the Russian flag.
