UFC welterweight Ian Machado Gary is having one of the worst run-ups a fighter could have to a major fight. He is one of the top prospects in the division, currently ranked no.10, and will return to action this weekend at UFC 296. The Irishman holds an undefeated record of 13-0. However, his stellar record and social media antics are not the only reasons for his surge in popularity (or notoriety) among fans ahead of UFC 296.

‘Machado’ Gary is married to Layla Machado, 40, who is much older than the 26-year-old and is also his manager. Garry’s wife still has her ex-husband in her life, whom Ian Garry has employed as his nutritionist. And ever since news of Mrs. Garry’s 2012 book ‘How to be a WAG’ came to light, Garry and his wife have been subject to relentless trolling and harassment on social media. This was led by Sean Strickland in particular and fans who followed suit to pick on the welterweight. Now, the couple has given a stern response via Instagram.

Ian Garry recently posted a video on his Instagram, responding to the hate coming his way. In the video, Machado stated, “They hate the way you walk. They hate the way you talk. They said you’re just a Conor McGregor fanboy. That you’ll never reach the top 10. They hate your wife, they hate your family and they even hate the food you eat. They said you’re just a hype train. That you get kicked out of every gym. They hate that everyone is talking about you. They hate that your brand is booming.”

He went on with his statement, saying, “…They hate that you’re interesting and entertaining and they really hate that you’re undefeated. They hate how you run things your way. They hate the way you win win win and win some more.” Garry concluded by giving his prediction on his upcoming fight. He stated, “They hate that on Dec 16, they’ll all be watching you win again.”

However, the video didn’t sit well with people on social media. Though the video mostly received hate, prompting him to turn the comments off again, his wife managed to leave a comment that read, “The perfect response.”

Ian Garry has quite the pressure coming into his fight against Vicente Luque. Garry had received flak for trying to brew a beef with Luque despite training at the same gym, Kill Cliff FC, Florida. However, Luque might be the least of his worries, considering who will be sharing the stage with him at the press conference for UFC 296.

The Irishman might have to jib with one of the UFC’s best trash-talkers, who also had some things to say about Garry’s situation.

Colby Covington calls out Ian Garry

Colby Covington is set to lead the main event in the UFC 296 card that Garry is fighting on. The welterweight title challenger is one of the best trash talkers in the sport, and he took no time to call out Ian Garry and his situation. ‘Chaos’ called Garry “a little f***ing sensitive soy boy” for turning his social media comments off after a recent backlash from the public.

‘Chaos’ went off on Garry, calling him a “f**ing joke” and a “little f**ing kid.” But knowing Covington, it seems like he will surely have more to say in the press conference. After all, the fighter loves creating chaos everywhere he goes. He will face welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
