In his podcast, Joe Rogan talks about almost everything, from sports to science and from family to enmity. However, this particular conversation was obviously a tearjerker, as the podcaster and his guest talked about their grandparents.

In the recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, Rogan invited Joaquin Buckley. However, things took an emotional turn as the fighter began talking about his grandmother. Then Rogan revealed the lessons he learned from his grandparents.

In the JRE: MMA Show episode #132, Joaquin Buckley talked about his grandmother, who has to be taken care of in every possible way. The fighter revealed that his aunt had to come up and take care of his grandmother so that he could train and fight in the UFC. Doubtlessly it was a hard time for the fighter.
Subsequently, Joe Rogan revealed his experience with his grandparents. He disclosed that he used to live with his grandparents when he was in his twenties. However, his grandmother had a stroke. Although the medicos gave her only 72 hours to live, she went on to live for 12 more years. Rogan talked about his grandfather taking care of her 24/7. He said, “They gave her 72 hours to live, but she went on living for 12 years.”
However, it is the lesson Rogan learned that carried him this far in life. He said, “One thing that imparted upon me is that life is short and that you got to appreciate your health and your ability to do things now.” Furthermore, the UFC commentator talked about how wild his grandmother was. She once went to jail for running numbers. He revealed, “My grandmother went to jail for running numbers for mom. My grandmother was wild. They tried to get her to give up names. She’s like f**k that, I’m going to jail. So, we were always like, where’s grandma? Like, oh, she’s visiting her auntie. And meanwhile, grandma was in jail for running numbers.”
Additionally, Rogan said, “To see her, when I was older, when I was 20, in my 20s. That sick, and inability to move, and pain all the time. It was like, damn, you gotta do something with your life.”
Things Joaquin Buckley learned from his grandmother

Following Rogan, Buckley shared the impact his grandmother had on him. Buckley revealed that his grandmother was suffering from a terrible disease, called ALS. However, the old lady showed great spirit. The fighter talked about how the disease makes the voice faint and can even take away a person’s smile. However, his grandmother could still smile and laugh at certain things. He said, “But, she was still able to smile, you know, and it’s sad that about this disease that can even take that- that can take that away as well. But she was still able to smile and still able to, you know, laugh about, you know, certain things.”
Moreover, Buckley revealed how strong his grandmother was. He spoke highly of her when he said, “She don’t look down on us up, because she was stricken with this terrible disease. Like even with, it stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, its actual name. She even changed the acronym where ALS is, stands for abundance of love and support. Because that’s what you need in order to defeat something like this.”

People take a lot of life lessons from their grandparents. Even Joe Rogan and Joaquin Buckley had a boatload of lessons to learn from their respective grandparents.
