Jake Paul has been making a ton of news recently for his aggressive call-out of Conor McGregor. The YouTuber has resorted to rather extreme strategies to secure a fight with the former UFC double champ. However, UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson thinks Paul doesn’t belong in the same ring as the guy he is aiming to fight.

Jake Paul has become a massive name after he knocked out Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. Having amassed a professional boxing record to 2-0, the younger Paul brother has turned his attention to several big names in the MMA world. He has called out the likes of Chris Weidman, Conor McGregor, and Dillon Danis.

Ahead of his fight this weekend, the media asked one half of this weekend’s main event, Stephen Thompson, if he would box Jake Paul. The former two-time 170-pound title challenger was quick to dismiss the proposal.

I would crush Jake Paul. For one, as an athlete, it doesn’t make sense. They just aren’t worthy to step into the cage or the ring with these guys that they are going to be fighting,” Thompson said at media day.

Stephen Thompson appreciates the business sense of Jake and Logan Paul

Thompson will make his return to the Octagon after a long layoff of one year. During his time away from the sport, ‘Wonderboy’ has increased his following on YouTube. Having dipped his toes into the content business himself, the UFC welterweight has nothing but respect for the two brothers.

However, he doesn’t believe that this gives them a right to make a crossover to combat sports.

Not worthy. But, as somebody who has dabbled in YouTube and social media and stuff, you have to take your hat off to Jake and Logan Paul. These guys are making some money and making moves. Hats off to them in the business aspect. But, the athlete in me is like why is this even happening like they don’t even deserve it. You have to earn the right to step in the ring with these legends.”

Thompson will return to the Octagon following a win over Vicente Luque last year in November. With a win to close off this tumultuous year, ‘Wonderboy’ will aim for a top-five ranked opponent that could help his case for a third bid at the title.
