Umar Nurmagomedov’s rise in the UFC has been nothing short of impressive, with the undefeated bantamweight quickly becoming one of the most talked-about prospects in the promotion. Hailing from the renowned Nurmagomedov family, Umar’s blend of exceptional wrestling, dominant ground game, and top-notch striking has made him a serious contender in the bantamweight division. What sets him apart is not only his fighting ability but also his mentality.
He approaches each fight with a calm, calculated focus, rarely showing signs of nervousness or overconfidence. His performances have earned him respect among fans and fighters alike, and many see him as a potential future champion in the division. However, the road to the UFC 311 had not been injury-free for the unbeaten fighter. He recently sat down for a chat with UFC on their YouTube channel and shared what exactly happened just a few months back.
He said, “After I was in Dagestan, I punch my arm. I go to show the doctor, you know, and I show them. They [do] like not [an] MRI [but] [what do you call it] when they check bone? They did X-ray and they said, “You broke [your arm]”. You know after that, after 20 days I go again even when I was broken, I was running. I want to still be in shape, you know. Even that time I try run, try to try to do shadow boxing, you know try to be in shape. And after 20 days I go again, and it’s become much better” He then pointed out how he urged his manager to get the fight in January and recovered in time to appear for the fight.

While the fight promises to be a wrestling clinic for the fans, former UFC champion Luke Rockhold believes the Dagestani fighter will dethrone the current bantamweight champion. The former middleweight champion suggested that
Merab Dvalishvili could face a tough challenge against Nurmagomedov, pointing out that the Dagestani fighter might have the perfect counters for Dvalishvili’s offensive strategies. He said, “He can outstrike him, and then Merab can shoot in. Umar can counter him and get to his back. I’m telling you, he is better. Merab might have the wrestling advantage in some way, shape, or form, but think about the cost of a tough matchup for Umar. When you start really looking at it, Umar is going to outstrike Merab. Then Merab will get frustrated. He’s going to shoot in, and Umar is going to counter him. He’ll probably get to a dominant position, and it’s going to go back up. I don’t see that fight going any other way.”Both fighters plan to give it their all with one aiming to capture the title, while the other, determined to defend it. With so much at stake, the stage is set for an unforgettable battle. What are your predictions for this matchup? Who do you believe will walk away victorious?
