Recently, Masvidal engaged in a conversation where he spoke about his career path before transitioning to a life of fighting. The discussion began with a question from the host and concluded with a statement. What might be the career of the ‘Gamebred’ before he joined the UFC?

The 38-year-old fighter had a conversation with Kim Congdon, and when asked about his first job and whether it was fighting, he proclaimed that he wouldn’t call it a job but rather a passion. He said “No for that’s my career I wouldn’t call it my job my passion you know”.
When asked about his job before he embraced fighting, he explained that his time was mostly consumed by training and fights. This left him with limited capacity to focus on anything else. However, he shared an incident from his childhood. He said, “When I was young I won a salsa championship in Florida. When I was like nine or ten I had the pictures to prove it enough at the finals. There was only like four four kids that I had to beat out so it was like nobody was there so I you know because being Latin you just grow up like whether you like it or not you’re gonna be in the Latin party”.
Furthermore, Masvidal emphasized the extensive hours he dedicates to his training regimen. He disclosed training 5-6 hours daily, Monday to Friday, which hindered other job pursuits. However, he also expressed his passion for dancing, especially salsa.

His journey took him through various past promotions, such as Bodog Fight, Sengoku, and Bellator. Notably, he took center stage during the inaugural spectacle at Bellator. Nevertheless, it was his remarkable displays within Strikeforce’s lightweight division that ensnared the discerning gaze of the UFC.
