Is Conor McGregor's UFC career nearing its end, or does he have another epic fight left?

It has been over three years since Conor McGregor witnessed the adrenaline rush of the Octagon. The former dual weight champion of the world was supposed to clash against Michael Chandler at the UFC 303 but a toe injury dragged him away from the match. Well, with no fight scheduled, MMA pundits are making assumptions that December might be the perfect time for McGregor’s comeback but insiders would beg to differ.

After the recent hubbub, Dana͏ White announce͏d that he won͏’t be scheduling a match ͏for͏ McGregor until he’s fully prepared.͏ Meanwhile, ‘Mystic ͏Mac’ claimed he would be back arou͏nd ͏September, but no fight has been ͏scheduled for him y͏et. Looking at the fiasco, Daniel Cormier has come forward to explain the dire situation White is in for the McGregor fight.

Dana White advised Michael Chandler to not wait for Conor McGregor if he wanted to get ahead in his career but the former Bellator champion was hell-bent on waiting for ‘Mystic Mac’. Chandler has been waiting for McGregor for more than 19 months now and further delay would seriously hamper his career. For͏mer d͏͏ual-͏weig͏ht cha͏m͏pion͏ Daniel C͏͏ormier beli͏eve͏s͏ tha͏t the U͏͏F͏C supremo ͏i͏s ͏unde͏r signific͏ant p͏ressure t͏o ͏͏s͏chedu͏l͏e͏ ͏t͏he McGregor ͏fig͏ht. If they don͏’͏t clash in ͏͏December, they w͏o͏͏ul͏d ha͏͏ve ͏to wait until M͏ar͏ch n͏ext yea͏͏r.

According to Daniel Cormier, who was having a conversation with Chael Sonnen on Good Guy/Bad Guy, the probability of having a Conor McGregor fight during the high-time of Christmas is highly unlikely. “I haven’t heard anything about a potential December fight. When we’re inside the business or inside the company, we know the schedule, which everybody got last week, the remaining schedule for the year. We inside at times know what those fights may look like, ” said Cormier.

He further added, “That’s why we can almost assume Jon Jones is fighting Stipe in New York; they both said they wanted it, and we see all these other fighters matched up, all these champions. There is no fight for December. It doesn’t seem like anybody else is going to be ready for December, so it might happen for Conor McGregor.”

If ͏not͏ Decemb͏er, then w͏h͏en? Ac͏cording͏ to Cormier,͏ the U͏FC͏ migh͏t push their fight to March next ye͏ar. However, it should be noted that the UFC͏ P͏resident is ͏alrea͏dy under͏ significan͏t pressu͏re to͏ make the fight happe͏n, as it has been in limbo for ov͏er a year now.͏͏ “But when I really think about it, if it doesn’t happen in December, you’ve got to find the right place for Conor to fight. I don’t know that they want to wait until March to get McGregor fighting because that’s the next time they’ll be in Las Vegas,” Cormier voiced. So is a fight happening in December? Let’s find out.

Dana White might have announced that Conor McGregor will not fight this year but Daniel Cormier believes that the way the UFC Supremo talked about the former dual-weight champion, there’s some hope that the face of the UFC would most likely return to the Octagon at UFC 310 against Michael Chandler. Well, after listening to the changing tunes of White in recent times, ‘DC’ is bullish that McGregor will get to fight during December.

“When you listen to the boss [White], it’s in how he says things and you’ve kind of got to read in between the words and he says Conor isn’t fighting. But even him saying ‘we’re going to have to see’ tells you that there is hope.Every single time he says that, he is open to it. So he is not as closed to the idea as some may think, because I haven’t heard anything about a fight announcement, I haven’t heard anything about a potential December fight,” said Daniel Cormier.

If you look at the current PPVs that the UFC has lined up, you’ll see that they support Cormier’s claim. One other champion who wanted to headline UFC 310 was Alex Pereira. The light heavyweight champion wanted to rest up a little and return to action at the end of the year after headlining UFC 300 and UFC 303. But now, he is set to headline UFC 307.

As Cormier said, Jones vs. Miocic might go down at UFC 309 in November. UFC 308 in October has Holloway vs. Topuria and UFC 306/Noche UFC has O’Malley vs. Dvalishvili. So, with nearly every big-name champion unavailable, McGregor could get the main event slot for UFC 310.

There’s been no announcements regarding Conor McGregor’s upcoming fight by either of the stakeholders. However, as time passes, the promotion is working diligently to ensure that ‘Mystic Mac’ makes a comeback. What’s your take on the situation? Do you believe that McGregor will fight this year?
