The 35-year-old welterweight star spoke about his performance in the main event of UFC 296 during the post-fight press conference. Thereafter, a journalist asked him if Colby Covington felt like he crossed the line when he made those remarks about the welterweight champion’s father.
He replied, “Not at all [feeling apologetic for the comments].” Covington proceeded to ask a question to clarify why he was not apologetic about the comments, bringing out the past of Edwards’ father. He asked, “Why would I have sympathy for a s*x trafficker or someone who impacted and hurt a lot of people’s lives?”
Colby Covington claims that he stands to speak the truth. Although it might not be something that people would love to hear, he will continue to be who he is. “The truth always stinks the worst in the world. So, no. I don’t feel bad about it at all.” In addition to that, ‘Chaos’ also opened up on the difference between him as a person and the character that he portrays as a fighter.
‘Chaos’ does not play a character
When a reporter asked Colby Covington about his character, he dismissed it altogether. He claimed that there is no character that he is playing. Covington stated that he tends to be his true self and could not care less what others think of him. He further stated, “There is no character. I’m a guy that just turns it up to eleven. I don’t care what people think of me.”
However, he has no problems with how people feel about him. Love him or hate him, Covington claims that he’s there to help the UFC reach new heights and he will continue to be himself to do that. “You can hate me, you can love me [or] you can be indifferent. It makes no difference. I am here to do the biggest and best business for this company,” said Colby Covington.
