As far as his performance till the unfortunate injury goes, he looked in control of the bout in certain aspects. That said, the Polish fighter was in his grooves as well. Chiefly, after the lackluster performance in his last outing, that caused him his light heavyweight championship.
A devastating loss with a gruesome injury puts Aleksandar Rakic out of any conversation about the title picture for the time being. However, the Austrian is not worried about any of that, as his sole focus is on a quick recovery.
Aleksandar Rakic injured his leg in the training camp for Jan Blachowicz bout
Rakic had a big hurdle to overcome in his outing against the former champion, Blachowicz. The Polish fighter has a very basic style, but he stays true to it. The 39-year-old throws a textbook jab and leg kicks to set up his ‘Polish Power.’
Rakic had trouble against Volkan Oezdemir with the leg kicks. Hence, he wanted to assure he was ready to counter the leg kicks of Blachowicz, come the fight day.
Speaking to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, Rakic revealed how he injured his leg while exchanging leg kicks with his sparring partners. However, he didn’t realize the extent of the injury and kept sparring.

“I felt in the fourth round in the sparring, the movement is not like it used to be. I didn’t feel stable on the knee,” Rakic revealed and continued the sparring. A wrestling exchange buckled his knee; “He shoots; I defended it and then the knee popped, but not like in the fight,” said Rakic.
Taking into consideration how close the bout was before Rakic’s knee gave out, the Austrian fighter appears to be one or two fights away from the championship. However, a recovery period awaits the fighter, and he acknowledged the same with his tweet while also disclosing the cruel part of the sport.
