The MSG Sphere in Las Vegas has been subject to strong feelings of surprise and admiration. The $2.3 billion structure is being targeted by the UFC as a venue for an event soon. Moreover, Dana White recently mentioned to Comedian Theo Von that his upcoming event on Mexican Independence Day at the Sphere is the biggest project of 2024.
The Sphere in Las Vegas was opened to the public in late September 2023. The venue is an LED orb that can host awards shows, concerts, movie screenings, and sporting events. So far, there have been no plans for any sporting events in that venue. However, Dana White claimed that the UFC was already working on it. Let’s take a look at what he said.

UFC CEO Dana White recently made an appearance on Theo Von’s ‘This Past Weekend’ podcast. There, the 43-year-old comedian asked the promoter if the UFC had plans for a big event in the future. White replied by stating that the Mexican Independence Day event at the Sphere will be his promotion’s biggest undertaking in 2024.
“My next big project that I’m working on right now is the Sphere,” said Dana White. A couple of months ago, the Noche UFC card featured some of the biggest Mexican fighters in the UFC. It was a success, but White wants to up the ante in 2024 at the Sphere.
“I want to do the Sphere on Mexican Independence Day and literally create and put on the greatest live sporting event anyone has ever seen,” Dana White further stated. In addition to that, the UFC CEO also mentioned that the development of an event for the Mexican fighters and the Mexican fans has taken him almost 22 years. And now, he is finally bearing the fruits of his labor.
Dana White added, “The whole Mexico thing and these Mexican talented kids, I’ve been working on this for 22 years. That’s finally starting to come to fruition.” Furthermore, the 54-year-old promoter recently confirmed that he had the Sphere booked for 2024 and he even beat a rival promoter to it.
UFC CEO wins the race against rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya
Dana White is not the only one who wants to host an event in the month of September. Former boxer-turned-fight promoter Oscar De La Hoya has joined Bob Arum to host their own event in the same month next year. However, White got the better of them, as he has confirmed the booking of the majestic Las Vegas Sphere for Mexican Independence Day. This puts Dana White 2-0 over boxing promoters as he booked the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for this year’s Mexican Independence day over his boxing counterparts.

“Mexican Independence Day, we are booked for the Sphere. We’re already working on the creative for the show,” said Dana White during the post-fight press conference of UFC 295. It will certainly be a tough challenge for the UFC to host an event at the Sphere given that the billion-dollar structure focuses on creating a visual spectacle.
