Joe Rogan has the most successful podcast in the world. And it is easy to see why. Rogan is open-minded, has a variety of guests, is affable to his guests, and is good at conversation. He discusses various topics, ranging from fighting, wildlife, politics, culture, and medicine, to name just a few.

But with many topics and volumes that he puts out, he has some bad takes sometimes, increasingly so in recent times, according to critics. While discussing the criticism singer Oliver Anthony’s song has received, he gave a take that many fans disagreed with.

Oliver Anthony, the singer of the viral hit ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’, was a guest on a recent episode of the JRE podcast. During the conversation, Rainn Wilson’s criticism of the singer’s lyrics came up. Wilson played the fan-favorite Dwight Schrute on the hit TV series The Office.

Wilson had tweeted that he would talk about the pay of billionaire CEOs instead of criticizing fellow poor people, as Anthony had done in his song. Dismissing his criticism, Joe Rogan said that Wilson should go down to the hinterland in West Virginia, Appalachia. Or, perhaps, the coal mines that are stricken with poverty and opioid addiction.

“There’s nothing funnier than millionaires talking sh*t about billionaires… Take Dwight from The Office down to West Virginia. Or take him through those coal mining countries. Maybe take him through those places in Appalachia where people have extreme poverty and pills have ravished those areas. Take him through there,” he said.

Fans react to Joe Rogan’s criticism of Rainn Wilson

Fans found Rogan’s comments hard to understand. Many said that Wilson was actually speaking in favor of poor people, the same people Rogan says he should meet.  Here are some of their comments.

“That’s rich coming from a millionaire”

“It’s cause he’s in the 100+ millionaire club. He’s inching toward 10 zeros and has to cover his bases”

“I don’t get Joe’s rant, wouldn’t Rainn’s comments about billionaires support Joe’s observation about West Virginia and pills etc.? (Purdue family, mining companies etc.)”

“Do they address the criticism? Cause I also was a little turned off by the lyric. Why are we attacking other poor people in a song called “rich men north of Richmond” ?”

“Dwight: “billionaires should pay more in taxes

Some fans also pointed out that Wilson had actually gone to a disaster-ridden Haiti to help the victims of the tragedy there. “Rainn Wilson has gone to Haiti after natural disasters. Joe goes to his ice bath.”

Joe: “oh yeah? Why don’t you go down to one of these mining towns huh!?

Dwight: “……..what?””

There were some who called Rogan a hypocrite for defending billionaires while being a millionaire himself. A fan said: “Has Rogan forgot he is actually extremely wealthy and does not by any standards live a normal life anymore?

The irony is actually making my brain spin.”
